He basically untangled and let her get further pummeled. I hope that woman didn't sustain any permanent damage

It was Holly Holm getting brutalized. She was p4p no. 1 at the time. Mathis just killed her there.

Holm later got revenge and continued her career in MMA despite having a lucrative fight against Cecilia Brækhus lined up.

I think she is heading back to boxing now.

That ref should have been suspended.

Some amazing female fighters out there. Love watching Naoko Fujioka, I dare say she's actually better, pound-for-pound, than Braekhus.

I believe it took me some 20-25 years to accept, and appreciate, women’s boxing.
When finally realizing, a lot of these amazons – with one hand tied behind their back – would beat the **** out of me, I just had to give in :boobies:

Here’s another recent Ring-list, “10 Greatest KO’s Ever”, most to be found on youtube.
Comments (shortened) by listmaker Thomas Gerbasi.

                1. Ann Wolfe KO 1 Vonda Ward
(May 8, 2004) Poor Ward. Despite putting together a 23-1 record, Ward will always be remembered for her starring role in Wolfe’s highlight reel.
                2. Mathis KO 7 Holm
                3. Bridgett Riley KO 9 Aicha Lahsen
(June 26, 1998) Dropped and hurt in the first round, Riley roared back and finished matters in the ninth.
                4. Jelena Mrdjenovich KO 9 Olivia Gerula
(Dec. 9, 2011) After losing a 2009 bout to Gerula, Mrdjenovich had payback on her mind.
                5. Ijeoma Egbunine KO 2 Valerie Mahfood
(Feb. 18, 2006) If Mahfood was known for one thing, it was her iron chin. Egbunine proved Mahfood was human.
                6. Alejandra Oliveras KO 8 Jackie Nava
(May 20, 2006) Already down twice early, Nava battled back. But in the eigth, she walked into a left hook.
                7. Mrdjenovich KO 6 Franchesca Alcanter
(Nov. 18, 2005) Arguably the sport’s premier KO artist, Mrdjenovich stopped Alcanter in their two ch’ship bouts.
                8. Lucia Rijker KO 5 Marcela Acuna
(Sept. 25, 1998) How good was Rijker? Just look at Acuna’s P4P resume since this 1998 bout.
                9. Ava Knight KO 2 Arely Mucino
(Oct. 29, 2011) Knight traveled all the way to Mexico to pin the first loss on the record of home-country favorite Mucino.
                10. Christy Martin KO 1 Bethany Payne
(Nov. 9, 1996) On the night Holyfield upset Tyson, the undercard saw women’s boxing pioneer Martin make short work of an overmatched Payne.

that actually may explain the ref's hesitancy...though hardly justifies it.

My favorite punch on the Ring list is Jelena Mrdjenovich knocking out Olivia Gerula in their rubber match for the WBC super feather title, leaving Gerula out cold for several minutes. Mrdjenovich had won on a 4th-round stoppage in their first meeting, while Gerula gained an unanimous decision in their second encounter.
(And yes, I do feel a bit perverted, recommending others to watch a vid when a human being has her brain blown into pieces.)
