Glans's superior height and reach also enabled him to have that rather upright style. He also has that great jab as well.

Note also how he intercepts many of Herman's punches with the inside of the gloves. It reminds me of a tabletennisplayer.

The gloves were 4 oz horsehair. Just to nitpick.

Morales is a food Call. The name that came to my mind watching the film, was Tommy Hearns. Gans showed great combinations, power in both hands and a lethal one punch KO with the right.

Did you notice how they tried to revive Herman BTW? Lifting the concussed fella up by his feet and Holding him upside down lol. I guess the theory was to force some blood into his brain.
Great choice to bump up this thread!

          - -Been over 100 yrs since Joes passing and that's a lot of great lightweights lacing em up, so yeah, been some slippage over the years, but great fighters never get old.

Btw, Joe was mentored by Bobby Fitz coming up, another p4p great suffering slippage.

But he has enjoyed tremendous recognition, and at the expense of better fighters, like McGovern and McFarland.

            What about Jack "Nonpareil" Dempsey?

            What about Tommy Ryan?

            What about Jack O'Brien?

            What about McAuliffe and Barry?

            What about Corbett and Sullivan?

Like Langford and Walcott, I am sure Gans was quite good. But he certainly wasn't the best. And better men's names have suffered, simply for the color of their skin.

Notice In the above post Rusty knocks Walcott, Gans and Langford all black ATG champions but holds up as positive examples nine white fighters.

              Everyone get the picture?

Yup. White fighters are discriminated against by fa.ggs like you.

Why not just appreciate fighters for how good they are and the challenges they overcame, rather than which lunch counter they ate at or their inability to identify their real father?

Fact: Joe Gans wasn't fit to carry Jack Britton's jockstrap.
