True, during his career, although since retiring I've heard stories on here of him not being very friendly or approachable with fans in recent years. I guess he just wants to be left alone and a bad rep could mean not being bothered for conversations or pictures, but it also leads to having haters, especially when they post about their experiences online.

Joe Louis had a lot of respect from white people, especially later in his career.

I'd like to throw Joe Fraziers name in the hat.

Have a thread which lists the "unfairly hated or wrongly hated" fighters.

          2) Floyd Patterson
          3) Julio Cesar Chavez
          4) Joe Louis

          8) Max Baer
          9) Ricardo Lopez
          10) Jack Dempsey
Nah man, some of those guys had serious 'haters'.

Robinson in particular. He had many detractors, and later on his divaish behaviour also spawned many enemies and made him that guy people lived to hate.

Chavez also had a lot of haterz in his day.

          Joe Louis also.

I guess some of these guys were more liked in general, but very, very few guys were liked by all.

Alexis Arguello was about as close as it gets I think.

Unfortunately, all fighters probably had haters of some type. Looking back and seeing several that earned the vast admiration they received also leaves me to realize they were not immune to the nationalistic and racial views against them.

I certainly agree Louis broke down many barriers.

Also mentioned here was Arguello, whom I thought carried himself in a way that was hard to find fault with.

I can't imagine anyone hating Matthew Saad Muhammad. Unless you were fighting him, I suppose.

I'd put Larry Holmes at or near the top of that list and to some degree, Sugar Ray Leonard, who has a hell of a resume but some undeserved hate.

I'm going to disagree about Holmes. He always had an attitude and was often obnoxious and usually was whining about something.

                      Close one to call:

Holmes was unfairly treated at times and was severely underrated...but this is a man who dropped kick Trevor from the ring and was not above giving what he got...

One should remember that Holmes did manage to **** King and keep his money though....And that shows that Holmes was smart.
