Not saying that this is a reason to be in support of Steele's decision, but I would not have been able to shake off the image of Taylor being the winner on points, standing there dazed and facially destroyed with internal body damage while Chavez in such remarkable condition that he was able to party with his entourage that same night.

It might have been easier to accept if not for a series of fights stopped early by Steele. Besides the Tyson-Ruddock fight, Steele pulled the plug way early on Keith Holmes-Q. Taylor as well giving Holmes the WBC middleweight title.
