  • Richard steele did great job chavez/taylor

I find the intelligent people realize he did a good job stopping that fight and
the ignorant people think he did a bad job. It's pretty simple; It's not Richard
Steele's job to "help a fighter to the finish line"....Period..For Steele to have
looked at the clock and say "I will let Taylor finish so he can win the title
because he deserves it"..Would have been an unprofessional, unsafe, and
    corrupt thing to do!!.....

When in that situation it's the fighters health that is no1. And Steele thought meldrick was unable to continue I agree with him.

Steele did a horrible job in that fight. But this topic is too stale to rehash yet again. It has been debated countless times in this forum.

this was Meldrick Taylor, not Buck Smith or Johnny Fightsonfriday. It was a horrible stoppage. I remember watching it and it was the first time boxing ever left a bad taste in my mouth

Hey Scott..Let me educate you...when you make a point, you need to follow
up with WHY you make that point...it's called arguing your case...Second..
if your looking for new, fresh topics go to the non-stop boxing section..this is
the boxing history section..you see?..Third,older movies and songs are
played over and over so NEW people can hear and see them..they never
          get 'STALE'..you see?

Once again...Why was it a bad stoppage?....Steele asked him if he was ok
and Taylor didn't answer....end of story.

Had Steele let him continue because he "deserved" it that would be showing preferential treatment and changing the outcome due to bias. It sucks for Taylor but the ref isnt there to drag you to the finish line.

Still, it's a blurred line of sorts because he has to judge if he can continue or not despite there not being any time left so to speak and if he had let it continue Chavez would have lost.

I've already gone over this countless times here. And so has almost everyone else. Just because it is boxing history, it doesn't mean that you can't come up with fresh topics.

But for your benefit I'll repeat my point. You don't stop a fight when the fighter is standing up straight taking the 8 count and there is no time left for him to get hit. And the tired argument that the referee isn't the timekeeper is bullspit. The referee should be aware of every facet of a fight. For example if Sergio Martinez had been dropped three times in the ninth, his fight with Cotto certainly would have been stopped. But being that it was the first round the ref used good judgment not to cheat Sergio or the crowd out of a chance for him to fight back.

Hey Scott,What do you say about the fact that Steele asked him"Are you ok?"..and Taylor said NOTHING!..Taylor has no one to blame but himself.
Taylor was very experienced and knew damn well that when a ref asks
you something, you better damn well answer or HE WILL stop the fight.
...you know it,he knew it and everyone one else knows this too!
