There are published stories of their sparring sessions at the amateur tournaments training sessions, the fact that evander is about the one guy that could be rocked and dropped early but battle back late and mike would fold. I always felt that if mike got past buster, evander would have beaten mike..
But I'm also alittle biased as I will admit to being a huge evander fanboy
You guys have history on your side because Tyson lost to Holyfield. There were a lot of guys who dominated Tyson early but could not compete with him when he got good. Tyrell Biggs was another who reportedly "owned" him, only to run into a new and improved buzzsaw.

sugaradamali; what spar session do you know of from their amateur days?

I knew Cus very well and handled Mike for Cus in the JO Amatuers along with Teddy Atlas and I don't remember any sessions with Evander.
They were 6 or 7 years apart you realize. Ray.

I believe it was in 83,84 either jr olympic or olympic trials.. they talk about it in the book the holyfield way and also in a Tyson book which I can't remember.. im pretty sure it was in preparation for 84 games when Tyson lost to tillman. No one wanted to spar mike but evander who was a light heavy.. holy also punked mike out over a pool game when Tyson was bullying everyone at the table..
I don't know how they could be 7 years apart when both where at the trials for 84 games plus they both turned pro within 2 months of each other..

^Mike was quite the early bloomer.

That's Lennox Lewis for those that don't know.

Anyway I've read about that sparring session between Mike and Evander during the Olympics. From what I remember Tyson was beating the hell out of Evander, knocking him down repeatedly but Holyfield kept getting back up which frustrated Mike before the trainers ended the session.

Evander was born on Oct 19 1962
                Mike on June 30 1966

I'm pretty sure they turned pro a year apart and its not impossible that they didn't spar I'm just saying I never heard of that. Cus was very particular who spareed his fighters and where and when. He didn't care for sending Mike out to the Olympic training center on his own and to my knowledge never did. All the JO tourneys were with me as the observer and Cus's connection. He may not have had that with the Seniors because I wasn't available at that time to
                be there.
I believe the time frame your speaking of may have put Evander in the Pan Am games and Mike was fighting for the Nationals spot against Henry.

There was no way the "team leaders" back then thought Tyson would do well in international comp because of his style. They though he would be constantly warned then points deductive for a lowered head!
Henry did get by and one bout he did very well in but Cus didn't give a damn about those competitions. He wanted Mike home and preparing for the pro future.

I've seen Mike spar some interesting fighters from the ages of 14 to 19.
There were a few who didn't do very well and one or two that did surprisingly good.
                Ray.

the pic with Lennox was the first day he was there, I was there too.

There are conflicting stories on Tyson and Lewis' sparring sessions too. Both sides have said that their men got the better of it. Did you witness their sparring and who bested who? (I know one thing is for sure: that Tyson knocked Lewis out of the ring early on as this was confirmed by both guys in interviews).

I think the kids came in for a 3 day session and we had some other fellows there to prep for their up coming bouts too. The first session Lennox was to defensive and that doesn't work against Mike he was to fast and elusive as a kid. He was faster than most any other boxer regardless of weight. His work rate was off the charts. We ended the session early and there was talk of Lennox leaving. I don't know what happened that kept Lennox there but they worked together the second day with Lennox holding his ground and doing much better and actually scoring well. The third session was cancelled, I'm not sure what that was about because I was involved with training others.
I thought the sessions heated up to the right degree and was tempered at the right time. They were both teaching sessions and letting them hang out too.
Like Cus I believe in hard sessions after teaching sessions are given I want to see a fighter repeat his lessons under fire. I'm not talking about a "gym fight" just hard work! I think Lennox is about a 1 1/2 years older but he looked like the less mature kid. Mike at 15 looked like he was 21 hahahaha!!!!
They both had their day. Ray.
