LOL it makes no sense, your explaining a point he didn't make, unless he doesn't know how to type.

If Louis is considered the best heavyweight, how can Ali be considered the greatest if he isn't even the number one guy in his own division.
He probably means that Ali has the greatest resume but Louis was the best boxer.

Yeah and I'll never understand why people would ever rank Louis above him. Ali beat the better fighters and was better H2H.

You said "any category" so I took you literally.

I dont understand how people can think Joe louis is the better boxer, when clearly Ali would own him in a head to head meeting..

Louis had trouble vs blownup lightheavys with good handspeed, I dont know how he would deal with Ali

I honestly dont think Louis would beat larry Holmes.. I know its blasphemy to say that, but Holmes' jab would be a nightmare for the smaller louis

To say that Joe Louis was a better boxer is simply saying that Louis was better at one style of boxing than Ali was, which is kind of a pointless statement. Ali was simply more effective at winning a boxing match, I mean this is not a fact but Ali is considered to be the least beatable Heavyweight of all time H2H.

If anything this is even more of a credit to Ali since he was as good as he was by doing everything that you're not supposed to do, while Louis did almost everything right technically.

In my opinion Ali's combo of speed and chin plus enough size to hold his own physically means he fares the best out of any HW in h2h matchups. Hes got the speed, reach and smarts to outbox pretty much anyone ever. His technique may be unorthodox but in the ring it is fcking difficult to outbox a fast, long guy who can move. When that guy is smart as well with a great sense of ring genralship it becomes nearly impossible. You need to take the fight too them and stop them to win, and thats where Ali's chin and size comes in. Hes big and tough enough to handle punches from any man, I'm confident of that.

And he wasnt a puncher but he had that explosive out of nowhere pop, and he could cut you up.

After Ali imo the best guys h2h are Holmes, maybe Bowe on his best night, Lewis on his best night, possibly Holyfield too but those guys could be inconsistent and that would see them drop a fight here and there against the other greats imo.

Its what makes Ali such an uncanny boxer. Most guys who break the rules with their speed and reflexes meet their match in a smarter, technically sounder boxer. Think Hamed-MAB. But with Ali he boxes in that unconventional way but he is very smart about it, about his placement, movement, various tactics,(not afraid to bend the rules) his jab as well. He would literally be a nightmare to fight, a 6''3 200+lb guy isnt supposed to move that fast lol
