Arguello: flat-footed, lack of mobility could be taken advantage of

Ali: headhunter, relied almost exclusively on straight punches; pulled-straight back to avoid punches; relied entirely on movement and reflexes for defense early career; relied on ability to take punishment late career

Robinson: could be drawn into brawls where he would sacrifice a lot of his defense, although he would usually come out on top; could have relied on his boxing skills more

Is it safe to say that Ali was one of if not the most physically gifted and able fighter ever? He had so many that he was able to have fanastic runs in both halves of his career.

A lot of learning. The 50's was basically Tiger's learning stage, his Amatuer career. He had very little Amateur career, if any. So a lot of early loss's whilst learning.

He hit his prime/peak in the 60's in which he only lost to great fighters or top fighters and the only person.

Tiger in the Mid 60's was an absolute animal and great fighter.

Manny pac-- cant handle a good lead/counter right hand

Morales, and jmm both have good right hands and that bothers manny,,

Barrera, hatton, cotto, oscar, margs are all left hookers and manny chewed them up and spit them out

So i can only imagine what floyd would do to manny with his right hand, but conversly floyd's flaws are manny's strengths,, that is what made that matchup so damn interesting, and will forever be a blackeye on the sport that the fight didnt happen

Roberto Duran - he just got way too greedy in some fights, lunging in with punches, not caring for much of what was coming his way. I once described him as a man running headlong into traffic, expecting all the cars to miss him. He got away with it because he had an iron chin at lightweight and no one seemed to hit as hard as him but as he moved up, he struggled against guys who could counter him, take his shots and hit even harder, see Hearns.

Odd viewpoint. Kind of on point with the old laymans view, but not at all with most boxing experts. I always thought it had more to do with the fact that he actually had amazing defense, and he would slip, duck, and roll with most shots, despite being a savage on offense.

He actually rarely ran headlong into anything, and while he was mad on offense, he based nearly all of it off very solid defense and brilliantly timed counter punching. He was more of a counter puncher than anything. Though he did have an iron chin when he did get nailed.

He got beat by guys at 154 and above, not because they were better necessarily, but because he was old, fat, out of shape, smaller than everyone (you say Hearns, yet Hearns was in his prime with about a decade of youth on Duran, with literally a foot in height and reach advantage, while that was about Duran's 7th division, and 20 pounds above his best division at 135). He just didn't belong at 154 and above.

His flaw, like Toney more recently, was laziness, food, booze, women and partying ie. excess.

I mean, check this out. Its a clinic on offensive counter punching, and defensive savvy. That move at 0.20 is just sublime. Slides back as he slips and dodges three shots, then as De Jesus follows him in, he slips the big right hand, spins him into the ropes perfectly as he slips around and rips a body shot that literally doubled him over, and a series of head shots to follow it up. The end fight counter right is timed to perfection too.

Mike Spinks had bad knees which limited the amount of road work he could do.
