  • The punch that turned the tide

This is about fights where a fighter was being out-pointed or outslugged and then everything changed after a great punch. Not necessarily knockouts, but more like Tommy Morrison's left hook on Ruddock and more recently Maidana's second KD on Broner.

Many come from behind knockouts came to mind when I seen this thread but since you are not necessarily looking for knockouts may I suggest Jorge Paez-Calvin Grove.

Mosley was holding his own for a couple rounds against Pacquiao til he got hit. It changed everything.

One of my favorite come from behind wins was Mike Weaver vs big John Tate.

Tate was eating Weavers lunch for the first 10 rounds of a 15 round WBA championship fight, then in the 11th round Weaver started to take it to the much larger and unbeaten Champion.

But was it too little to late?

Hell no with 40 sec left in the 15th and final round Weaver transfixed big John Tate with a left hook from hell knocking Tate out cold and relieving John of his belt and really destroying Tate's career.

That's why boxing is the king of sports, because it aint over till the fat lady sings baby!

A fight I watched half an hour ago......Kevin Kelly was doing a damn good job on Naseem Hamed till he got caught.

Pacquiao's KD of Cotto I believe in the 4th? From what I remember Cotto seemed to be doing what many feared he'd to do to Manny landing on the ropes, etc then Pac knocks him down and the rest is history. Cotto wasnt the same after that punch.

Mosley's punch of Floyd also changed everything. They went from sizing up and just trading and posing to Floyd waking up FAST. Worked the opposite way but that punch really out it in perspective to Floyd I feel. To me it seemed Floyd was very uncomfortable at the thought of even fighting Shane when Shane hit him he realized it was due or die.

Do blow blows count? I remember Zab buzzing and landing in Cotto and doing very well until he started getting blow blowed.

Matthysse vs Garcia deserve a mention due to that freak "punch" (if we can even call it that) that made his eye swell.

John David Jackson-Jorge Castro. That was incredible because Castro was on the verge of getting stopped.

              Also:

              Thomas Hearns-Iran Barkley 1

              Julian Jackson-Terry Norris

              Hector Camacho-Edwin Rosario

I don't think Camacho ever mentally recovered from what Rosario hit him with. It changed everything.

That should have been the first example that came to my mind. One of my favorite short fights ever.

I enjoy that one too. Before he got caught, Hearns looked as good and sharp as he had ever looked. The body shots on Barkley were brutal. That one punch changed everything very fast.
