Who's got the better resume out of these two giants of the sport?

Both awesome resumes,, but i think i gotta go with SRR
he covere more ground in his career..
Ali had one reign in his prime and 2 past his prime,
SRR had welter reign in prime, and then cameback at MW and won 5 titles
Both pretty much have very comparable opponents, but i think SRR has more longevity, so i gotta go with him..
Maybe if ali had won frazier 1, it might be different, but as it is, SRR is slightly ahead in resumes -

It is a testiment to Ali that this question has any basis in comparison....I think it might barely qualify in this regard....
Heavyweights have a lot less to choose from. Generally guys in the lower divisions have a lot of guys coming up and down, and can fight across the classes of people that fight in the most natural weight classes for a human being, hence a lot more competition....Yet Ali was exceptional in the comp he fought!
Still goes by a country mile to SRR but Ali fought some great fighters.Comment

Ali had the better resume but SRR gets the nod because he
had so many fights...You have to rate quantity over quality in this
case...but not all cases..Ali fought the toughest competition
in boxing history..his easy,tune-up fights were with Bonavena
and Quarry;these two would have been heavyweight champs
in almost every other era.Also,Ali gets extra credit because
in the heavyweight division,one punch can put you in the hospital.Comment

That was only Frazier's 12th fight and Joe won handily in a rematch. I saw Bonavena fight. He was strong and awkward, but really nothing special. He might have beaten a crappy heavyweight champion but definitely not a top one. Of course when you say "right circumstances", that could allow him to slip in. But he definitely wasn't an uncrowned champion or anything close to it.Comment

Somebody made a thread about Ali's great resume once, I don't remember exactly but I think he made it clear that Ali has the highest top-10 opponent percentage of any other all time great. That is why he can be compared to greats from older eras who had many more fights than him. Amazing consistency.
Ali has fought arguably 5 heavyweights that can be ranked in the top 10 ATG HW list and he has beaten 4 of them(Patterson past his prime though) and 3 of them twice. I don't think you can find too many greats that can say the same about their resume.
Ali has made 19 succesful title defences in his reigns, and is a 3-time HW champion in an era where you had one champion.
He also has one of the greatest comebacks of any boxer ever. Losing 3 years of your prime while relying mostly on speed and reflexes is no easy thing to come back from.
EVEN with all that said and as great as he is, I still can't put him above Robinson. The only one I can make a case for personally is Armstrong. It is too bad that heavyweights do not have the "moving up in weight" advantage that other greats have to add to their legacies.Comment
