  • Best puncher from Mexico?

We've had many Mexican boxers that had great punching power/technique. Out of these fighters who do you think was the best puncher overall?

    Julio Cesar Chavez
    Ruben Olivares
    Ricardo Lopez
    Salvador Sanchez
    Pipino Cuevas
    Carlos Zarate
    Alfonso Zamora
    Humberto Gonzalez
    Jose Luis Ramirez
    Vicente Saldivar
    Juan Manuel Marquez

Probably Pipino. The guy was a wrecking machine with that left hook of his. When you were able to take it away though, he went from HOF level puncher, to one dimensional brawler. Still, that hook was a game changer for just about all who couldn't take it away. Hard to say with any certainty when you also have Zarate, Zamora and Olivares on the list.

I'm guessing we're talking about power punchers?

From a purely technical punch perspective as well as power, Marquez and Lopez are right up there too. Both had excellent, and usually very underrated, power in both hands. Both have a lot of really top notch combination KOs and one punch KOs considering they're both mostly thought of as more cautious minded counter punchers than most of the others.

All from that list are excellent punchers though. Some incredibly good punchers.

However, I think I'd rate them as:
    Pipino
    Zarate
    Olivares
    Zamora

    Hard to separate them.

If you factor in power and technique, then I'd go with Zarate. Cuevas and Zamora probably had the heaviest hands on that list.

I'll go with the only guy to ever stop Azumah Nelson... Salvador Sanchez.

Never thought anyone would ever consider Sanchez a puncher.

Jose Luis Lopez. He was a very hard puncher, but his prime was way too short to be compared to the other talent listed here.

A lot of great punchers on the list. My favorite to watch is Zarate.
