Joe Frazier I believe is probably the most underrated heavyweight great. That being said he did finish his career at 32-4-1 (27 kos) at first glance his record does not look that impressive until you start seeing the names on it. However I've often wondered why he didn't have more fights. My guess is his injuries including his obstructed vision in the left eye etc played a huge role. Any thoughts?

His loss to Foreman certainly didn't help with that eye. His performance in the Thrilla in Manila is spectacular considering his condition.

Top 10 hw.. Gets compared with Tyson way too much
They were very different, the only two things that come to mind, is height and head movement

The thing about frazier was his style,,
that aggressive come forward, alot of movement type style is great for a young fighter, but once they hit mid to late 20s they burn out, and cant maintain that type of non stop attack, whereas a boxer that relies on countering, and working off the jab has a much longer shelf life
ie frazier, tyson, hatton, those type of pressure fighters are absolute nightmares for anyone but once those guys get around 28 years old or older, you will see a huge drop in work rate, and they cant absorb the shots like they use to, and they dont seem to be able to hang on the elite level anymore,, still can get some solid wins, but arent anywhere near the dominant force they were when they were 25 years old

Very true. Roberto Duran being another example after the first Leonard fight he never showed the same pressure again. In some of his biggest later victories against Cuevas and Barkley he actually won those fights by countering. Even against Hagler he was mostly countering which threw Marvin off big time.

similar to duran, marco antonio barrera was another guy that prolonged his top level career by utilizing a more counter puncher, and working the jab as opposed to being a ****er like he was pre-morales 1..

Frazier's plan was to take you out. He put his head on your chest and wore you down.
With that style, youre going to get tagged a lot. Despite Fraziers good defense, even Ron Standers landed some shots. Simply because he was durable.
When you fight like that against one of the most resilient, accurate and durable boxers in history (Ali) not once, but three times, youll have a lot taken out of you. To say nothing of Chuvalo or Bonavena. If they last the distance, theyre gonna do some damage.
This is to say nothing of Foreman, of course.

The particular pedigree of a fighter often does figure into his rating that much is certain. How do you guys think Frazier compares to hollyfield? I mean Tyson was a lot more of a devistating, fast, explosive type....power in all hands who happened to bob and weave at times. But Tyson, unlike Frazier and unlike a guy like Joe Louis (for example), had much more foot speed and much less precision with regard to cutting down the ring.
By the time Tyson was bobbing and weaving he was in on you....Where as Frazier would stalk and weave in relentlessly until he could find the body and then he would stay there.
If I were to pick a similar fighter I might go with Hollyfield: Holly, like Joe beat up guys on punch count, swarming in like Frazier had enough power to always be a threat in a new york minute. Holly may have more weapons, but he uses them in similar fashion.
