I love the idea of a pension for fighters, but I just don't think it is feasible unless boxing changes dramatically.
Then it should change dramatically and there should be an organization for such a thing, for boxers, MMA fighters, all athletes.

It seems like these guys go until they're around 50. That's kind of crazy and really risky, kind of sad too.

Roy isn't any where near as active as Sugar was. He also doesn't have the defense and overall experience that Sugar had. Sugar also stayed at 160 occasionally giving a few pounds away but nothing like Roy not fighting at 175+ a few. He's fighting at a cruiser class 190, I think and that shows he's not in top condition he's just using his faded talents and hoping its enough!
Hopefully the opposition doesn't have any power so he can flirt his way threw 10 rounds! Its sad to me but Sugar was a full time fighter and that was his life. Roy has options and the ability to earn through promotion and commentary but it doesn't replace the thrill and excitement that fighting gave him. He can't adjust................ Ray

Yep, that's it right there. It's money too, but not just money. But the glory, the spotlight, the thrill and excitement, as you put it. That's also part of the lure that keeps them coming back far beyond the time they should.

Like others have said you have to take into account activity. For instance SRR had 198 fights and lost 19 so about 10%. RRJ has lost 8 out of 64 or about 12%. Not too bad if you ask me.

It's "your" crap, Mr. Advanced. They sure give out those inflated, useless degrees to everybody these days. Just curious...what kind of job prospects are there with a degree in Political Economy?

Great point Ray Leonard's ego and wanting to be in the spotlight led to the two losses at the end of his career. Money was not a factor as Ray had his managed quit well.
