True, the Taylor-Chavez fight sparked a lot of controversy and debate. Richard "Punch and Get Out!" Steele seemed to insert himself into too many of them, though.

Fighters don't help matters when they suddenly get wide-eyed with the "why did you stop it, I'm fine" look.

We're talking about in the heat of the moment, and the ref IS up close, but I think there should be a little more warning. Within reason, the ref can do "walk to me" after a KO.

Dicier is when the fighter hasn't gone down, and is on the ropes, maybe covering up a little too long.

The standing 8 count doesn't seem to be used much anymore, but a standing 3 might be the answer; just enough time to let the fighter and the fans know that the TKO is coming.

If the fighter is dazed he won't know the difference and taking one more punch even on gloves in front of his face will be the end, but if he does have his senses he'll instantly prove he's still in the fight.

We see from the Adonis Stevenson fight or Zab Judah, a fighter can seem to have been saved, and even want to continue, only to collapse 30 seconds or a minute later.

Yes, but it was also pointed out the last time this was discussed that Steele also forgot to send Chavez to a neutral corner after the knockdown. So if that was done, like it was supposed to be and is the rule after any knockdown, then Chavez would have had no chance to throw anymore punches before the bell rang anyway. Steele should have also made sure he had Taylor's attention when Taylor got to his feet and Taylor should have made sure to respond when he got up. That whole situation was wrong on every level and everyone was to blame there. A strong argument can be made both for stopping and not stopping that fight too.

I kinda agree with you. By todays standards. But back then it was absolutely a controversial stoppage.

Excellent, Nelson. Though I had never seen anything in print before about anyone's unhappiness regarding ye stoppage, I definitely had noticed that very little by Robinson was actually landing in ye legendary assault post knockdown, especially not cleanly.
