How does Sonny Liston in the 70s?

Sonny Liston only has one bout in the 70s where he battered Chuck Wepner, how do you see Sonny doing in his prime against the top dogs of the 70s? (add your own if you like)

I'm sure he still loses against Muhammad, just not as decisive as before with a slower Muhammad. He's not KO'ing Ali though.

I'd take Frazier by 8th to 10th round TKO, could go Liston's way though.

I'll take big George over him, Sonny may do better than Frazier did.

In most cases i think Sonny beats Ken Norton, given Norton is a better athlete he could find a way.

    Holmes over Liston by Decision.

    Leon Spinks loses via death.

Shavers may hit harder, but he's not taking Sonny.

Then Sonny over Quarry, Lyle, Foster, Ellis, Chuvalo, Mathis, Shavers and so forth.

Lol @ Leon Spinks. His claim to fame was beating up an old Ali man nothing more. For some reason, I don't like Liston over Lyle. But I agree with all of your other picks, some of those would be good fights.

Should beat everyone except Holmes. Possibly loses to Foreman, but I don't think so.

i pictued Lyle bringing trouble to the table, but in the long run i'd see Liston drop him.

if liston was prime in the 70s,, i think he would have had classic battles with everyone,,

I would still favor foreman to ko him

him and ali would probably have a trilogy ala ali-norton

frazer would probably win in the early 70s, but lose the rematch down the road,,

            i think liston beat norton

holmes outpoints liston,, holmes jab slightly better than liston's jab

liston would be a HOFer and considered higher up on ATG heavy list,,

Are we talking about a hypothetical with prime Liston, or actual Liston at the age he would be in the 70s?

Prime Liston annihilates Frazier, beats Foreman, and loses a tight to decision to Ali.

Agreed, prime Liston in the late 50s was quite something. If he were about in the 70s, he had enough sheer power to stop Frazier and Norton, enough distance stamina to outlast Foreman and enough ring craft to take 70s Ali (and probably Holmes too) to points, though I think both would sc**** the decision wins.

Jimmy Young might be an awkward fight for Liston; hell he was awkward for anyone and could take a good punch! Shavers and Lyle have punchers chances; but I'd certainly favour Liston in both encounters.

Agree that he beats frazier. don't think he beats foreman (think foreman beats anyone of his style) 70s version of ali wins close decision? Yeah I agree with that.

Holmes-Liston would be a tremendous fight. I agree that Holmes probably takes a close decision, but Liston would be one of the best boxers that Holmes would ever fight, and he had the power to finish him off if he had the chance.
