i remember seeing him fight againts tito (at age 23 with 54 wins) witch was his first lose. he looked pritty good untill the part where tito took over. he caught him with a great hook that he only took 6inches back. the annoncers were refuring to him as the boxer with the body of chavez and the punch of tyson. his biggest losses were againt carr de la hoya and tito. then he had a couple of decisions againts minor opponents. with all his skill and power why wasnt he ever great? was it because he burned out by having 54 fights at 23??

Chavez was a basic, take 3 punches to land 1 inside fighter. He did have a granite chin and great cardio at 135 and under though. That style doesnt translate when fighting a quick powerful fighter.

Not alot of difference in skill between Campus and Chavez, besides Chavez had better cardio and was better inside fighter.

Certainly but how many 'quick powerful' punchers have moved through the game? Often they are only one or the other. E.g Taylor, Camacho. Very quick but couldn't back him up. Once he moved up over 135, I agree, skill set didn't compensate for giving up size.

Why is why Chavez should NEVER be considered with the greats. Truly GREAT fighters are affective in multiple weight classes, as funny as this may sound to some, i'd favor MIGUEL COTTO (similar body punchers is what made me think of Cotto) over Chavez @ 147.

I'd favor Campus over Chavez @ 147. I started a topic a few years ago with that matchup and idiots on here thought it was a joke, not realizing that Chavez was very average @ 47 and Campus would have cracked him.

Uh Chavez was effective in multiple weight classes. 3 we know of. He was champion in the super feather, light and light welterweight classes and was lineal champ at lightweight, so that's 3 weight classes, therefore effective in multiple weight classes. Now if you wanna say he wasn't effective or didn't do well at welterweight, that's an entirely different discussion and not what you stated. In their primes, I'd still say Chavez would have a shot at Campas. He struggled against some much tougher opponents at 147 like Whitaker and De La Hoya, who beat Campas in 7 at 154.
