A great fighter doesn't have only one notable win coupled with humiliating losses.

That's the bottom line. Corrie Sanders was nowhere near being a great fighter. On paper or in the ring. I don't even see this as debatable.

yea,,,he had the talent and the tools to be much better than he was. poor training habits contributed to some of his losses but as you said,,,he definitely was not a great fighter. you need to be more than a part time fighter to become great

No he couldn't be better than what he was, he was what he was - a chinny one-hit wonder.

                wladimir obviously.

                patterson might get blasted.

if a guy didn't have a beard sanders would at least have a shot. he had very good handspeed, was a southpaw, and obviously had the power.

I would say those are "good" fighters (or very good in the case of Witherspoon and Mercer) rather than "great" fighters. Tagging guys of that level as great seems to me to be an unnecessary cheapening of the word.

To me a great fighter is a fighter with exceptional skills, who can compete at the top level and can have at least a performance to show what they are capable of achieving. We do get into some grey area when we discuss guys like Douglas and Sanders but...well its a matter of opinion. In my mind if douglas or sanders had trained harder, fought more consistantly, perhaps had better coaching they may have been elite.

Greatness is the level you perform at...In Sanders case he almost starched Vitali as well if you watch that first round.
