Naz Hamed went to jail for crashing his £325,000 McLaren into another driver at 90mph, pretty much obliterating the other car and badly injuring the occupants in the process. ****** overtaking stunt that went badly wrong.

Harry Simon for culpable homicide from a car accident.

Paul Spadafora was sentenced to prison for the attempted murder of his girlfriend.

David Telesco, Lupe Aquino, James Scott, and Chuck Wepner also served time.

I'm not sure about ages or time served.

Didn't Liston also have mob ties and a contract owned by mobsters??

Yep. Blinky Palermo owned his contract when he moved to the big time having bought it off of a local St Louis mobster.

You think his death was mob related? Seemed kind of fishy.

Probably. I doubt we'll ever know for sure though.

James Scott went to prison with a 10-0-1 record and became a top contender while in Rahway. They allowed him to box professionally and he beat several contenders that were willing to fight at the prison(Eddie Gregory and Yaqui Lopez). Scott could not get a title shot because no champion nor sanctioning organization would go for a title fight in a prison. Scott eventually lost to Dwight Muhammad Qawi, who also learned to box at Rahway.

There were stories that Ruben Carter also learned to box at Rahway. Interesting because James Scott became interested in boxing while a free man after watching Hurricane Carter fight.

                  Small world.

Sonny Liston was also a well known thief and armed robber. He also beat down a police officer for dropping a racial slur on him. He was a juvenile during most of this, and given his unknown birthdate. I'd say somewhere between 13-18 for his original crimes. Around 20-22 when he laid out the cop.

Jack Blackburn (Joe Louis' trainer and former lightweight fighter) had murdered a man. There's not very much about Blackburn though.
I know this is off topic but I would have loved to have heard stories about a street fight between bumpy Johnson and Liston. I've heard bumpy has never lost a street fight and was beast.

Eddie Machen did some time for armed robbery before becoming a pro. Not sure how long.
