I think that strictly for the purposes of this comparison the Michael Spinks fight is relevant. Spinks really had no meaningful way to keep Tyson off of him....That was that. Tyson, the guy who many at the time called a dumb brute yada yada, knew that Spinks could not keep him off of him. Much the way Musashi dispatched of the technically superior "prince Koto" by simply blitzing him with a wooden oar that had length on the princes' sword....not to mention the prince had waded out to the tide and had no way to manoveur... Tyson never gave Spinks the opportunity to box him.
Here is the problem that Haye would face: guys like Holmes could move and hence work a jab...back in the eighties guys could move. Haye gets by with a speedy ambush movement that works very well against guys who cannot move real well, as New England said he has no jab and really no way to keep Tyson off of him. If Haye tried to ambush Mike he would run into a brick wall, Tyson would pressure him, walk him down and make Haye wish he had something like footwork to keep Tyson back.
As with Spinks, Haye would be overwhelmed. Holyfield was coached by a genius....he beat Mike by using a JU Jitsu principle....triangulating Mike making him push back on his heels, or he would have had a similar fate. The old timers had more of a sense of balance and grappling ability and might be able to do similar things (as Holly) did to Tyson...but not a guy like Haye!
