IMO for what its worth, I think this establishes a lineal champ....

Floyd and canelo are the top 2 guys in that division with combined wins over champions cotto, oscar, trout,

No other combination of fighters at 154 can say that,,,

Lara comes close, but technically he hasnt won a belt yet and has a disputed loss to pwill and a disputed draw to molina, and many felt molina was robbed, plus he had a draw with matrisoyan in a stinker

Angulo always gets on a roll, then has a setback ie cintron, kirkland, lara, immigration

matrisioyian hasnt done anything but beat C-level guys and draw with lara in a horrible fight

    kirkland is non existant

I see Floyd and canelo the top guys of division, especially since canelo stepped up and got a win over the undefeated champ trout,

So yes i think this will determine a lineal champ- at least in my eyes

Actually, I believe this fight will establish a new and 'official' lineal 154 champ. Who knows what organisation, body or person decides these things, but I understand that it's being officially recognised, if such a thing can be seen as official.

With Floyd having been the 130, 135 and 147 lineal champ, this will recognise him as the only other 4 weight lineal champ along with Pac, Floyd having beaten the lineal 140 pound champ at 147 well before Pac eventually did it at 140....when he really wasn't the best fighter there anymore anyway.

      That's my understanding of it.

This. I mean, the only other guy who even has a belt in class in Molina (was Smith). This was a pretty solid 1-2 or 1 versus previous 1 (May off Cotto). May is THE champ at 154 right now. That's four lineal. I believe it should be recognized that way and will be now at Ring, TBRB, on this page's ratings (which, while I am on TBRB, are done separate from those).

For credible ratings, TBRB is a great alternative to a magazine now owned by Golden Boy Promotions.

ok so it seems the answer is yes. I am glad the record does not belong to Pacquiao anymore. It was a disgrace to the sport.

It is still a bit of a disgrace that this happened at a catchweight, but nothing comparable to records belonging to someone refusing drug testing.

The record belongs to both...and what was 'disgraceful?' It just is. Both did remarkable work to pull that off. Hernandez, Castillo, Baldomir, Alvarez is no better or worse than Saskul, Barrera, Marquez, Hatton. Those are both some bad boys.

absolutely. mayweather was the #1 guy at 154 after cotto, but he didn't campaign at the weight in his next fight. trout was the top 154 lber not named mayweather after he beat cotto. alvarez beat trout. then the two top 154 lbers in the world fought. floyd won. he's lineal champion.

if there wasn't a lineage before it was established when the two top guys boxed.
