To make matters worse, the ref stood idly by as Duran turned Moore into a human piņata. By the time Meyran came between the fighters, Moore had already sustained eccessive punishment.

Years later Iran Barkley vowed to "avenge" his buddy Moore's brutal defeat and got his own ass kicked for his trouble.
thank god for jose torres who was a ringside and was very vocal in stopping the moore fight.
The Barkley fight although not one-sided by any means was a classic hard fought battle and cleanly contested.

Meyran? I thought the commentators said the ref was Ernesto Magana in the Davey Moore fight. I think Meyran was the ref for the no mas fight.

You're probably right. In that case, my apologies to Meyran.

And Duran is considered by many as the number one lightweight of all time? I thought that honor went to Benny Leonard. I've heard of Duran being top 5 mostly, top 10 at worst.

Ring magazine rates duran number 1 although I personally rate leonard and duran 1a and 1b as I rate ali and joe Louis rounding out the top five at lightweight would be joe gans, ike Williams and carlos Ortiz. What are your thoughts Anthony?

                For me it's:
                1. Joe Gans
                2. Benny Leonard
                3. Roberto Duran

While we share the same top 3, I'm sure my difference in rank wouldn't shock anyone, although the #3 slot might be subject to question by most.
                  1. Duran
                  2. Gans
                  3. Leonard

We came close to not sharing the same top 10. I struggled between Ray Lampkin and Monroe Brooks; I decided on the latter by nothing more scientific than a coin flip.

Both fights deserve mention I venture to say a top twenty could easily be made.
