Good list; but, personally I would have put his win over SRL first.

Thanks for posting the footage, btw. Roberto Duran, it seems to me, is becoming more and more an underrated great. Used to be he was a little overrated; but these days the pendulum has swung in the other direction.

Tough to rank the top 10

but i think the top 3 would be
1. SRL
2. Barkley
3. Moore
then all the lightweights wins,,,

I think the 3 i mentioned are the best because it was duran past prime and above his weight,,,,
I put barkley #2 because it was fight of the year, it was his last great win at 38,39 years old, for a belt,, plus barkley would beat hearns twice,, and hearns had brutally ko'd duran a few years earlier,, showing once again that triangle theories never work

great list I am not sure Duran is overrated his stature in the ring all time ratings at light weight has elevated to number one over the years. p4p bert sugar has him at number 8 as of 2006. I personally rate him higher.

First of all, thanks for your input. That said, I suspect that you are in the majority who would rank SRL first. Here's why I beg to differ: First and foremost, I place a higher premium on KO victories. In addition, the Moore fight showcased the quintessence of the boxing skills on which his stature is based.

My ATG p4p ranking of him have varied through the years. I have never ranked him lower than 6th. or higher than 4th. As my perspective of "no mas" has changed, so has the upward mobility of my ranking. Today (and for the past few years) he remains at the 4th. slot, as I can't get him past Robinson, Louis and Ali. As for the Boxing journalistic community, he owns the #1 slot as a Lightweight and the #5 slot on average overall.

I remember reading a post one time from John Scully, who had interacted with Duran, saying prior to the Moore fight, Duran had told the people around him that he'd thumb Moore in the first round; and his ass would be his after that.

I always felt sorry for Davey Moore 'cause Duran beat him up so badly. Not just beat him....beat Him Up. That fight was a mugging. Don't get me wrong. I'm no saying Duran was a dirty fighter; but he had his moments just as Sandy Saddler and others did. He had a mean streak a mile wide in his early days. And going into the Moore fight, everybody thought Duran was shot. I think that pissed him off enough to fire him up. And boy, did he show them.

The Moore fight is one of the most brutal fights I have ever seen; and from a one-sided perspective. I would also like to say that it points out exactly how great Duran could have been....if he'd devoted more of his time to the sport. Ultimately, boxing is the only thing he really knew and was a "genius" at; and that is why I give Duran a shot to beat any lightweight/welterweight whoever lived.

Sometimes people in these forums will ask: "If you were in a street fight, which boxer in history would you pick to be with you, back to back. My freakin' money's on Duran. Give me "Hands of Stone" at his best....and I'll take on just about anybody.

He was one of the best damn FIGHTERS who has ever lived.......bar none.

Made even more so by Moore's own corner, accompliced by referee Octavio Meyran. The bell should not have tolled for the 8th. round. Moore did not have a "puncher's chance" in hell in turning that fight around and they litterally risked his life by pulling the stool from under him. To make matters worse, the ref stood idly by as Duran turned Moore into a human piņata. By the time Meyran came between the fighters, Moore had already sustained eccessive punishment.

Years later Iran Barkley vowed to "avenge" his buddy Moore's brutal defeat and got his own ass kicked for his trouble.
