    Mercado was decent.

Hopkins fought every single contender there was to fight. He didn't duck anybody.

The likes of Echols, Allen, Eastman, Holmes etc were the top MW contenders of his era.

The problem is, it's a very very weak MW era.

I, and most others, would have much rather Hopkins moved up to 168 where the talent was as opposed to defending his title against not so great opposition 20 times.
I wish hopkins hadnt fought taylor and instead fought kingsley, winky, and then abraham,,, then fought taylor....

from a business point of view i would have milked the title alittle longer and really built up the taylor fight,,, I remember taylor getting alot of hype and beating joppy, but then all of a sudden he got the hopkins fight,,,
Dont get me wrong it was a legit fight, but i just wish hopkins had fought those guys in 2005 and then fought taylor,,,

A move to 168 would have been good too,,, hopkins-lacy would have brutal, and i would have liked to see hopkins-calzaghe in earlier than it happened, and a froch or kessler fight...

but this is all nitpicking on my part,

Good thread. And let's not forget Don King had a pretty good stranglehold on the division when Hopkins was there. He did great all things considered.

Hopkins would have beat Lacy so badly he'd have probably retired on the spot.

I wanted Hopkins to move up to 168 in the 90's or early 00's.

He fought Taylor at the right time. At this point he'd milked the MW title for wayyyyyyyyy too long.

Who was the guy that Hopkins was asked about afterwards with the statement "aren't you embarrassed" after his middleweight title defense of a mandatory challenger. That wasn't Eastman, was it? Maybe I'm thinking of Robert Allen? I remember Larry Merchant asking Hopkins this after a title defense.

That was against Hakkar. Which truley was a joke of a fight.

He proceeded to call out the likes of Mayorga, Vargas, Mosley and a list of much smaller men after the fight that added fuel to the fire.

"The Bernard Hopkins Production Company" owned and operated by.........................thats right Bernard Hopkins! Who takes his time and picks his opponents very carefully. Yes its a terrific accomplishment to fight at his age against the class of guys he fights but leave it there!
He's another defensive guy who knows the ropes (literally) and will never force a fight or take one single chance, he doesn't have to! All his major fans are novice fans who are impressed that anyone over 45 could do anything physical hahahaha!!!

Bernard knows how to fight but he has a new gig that allows him to spar and get much better pay than a spar partner gets.
Waiting to see him in with someone who throws real punches for a full 12 rounds!! Won't happen between him and Floyd they've fooled the public for years now and keep rolling on!!! This is the 'new" boxing promotion, "sparring"
              Ray.

Hey look I'm NOT a fan period! If I'm going to invest in a fight to watch I want to see a fight!
Bernard was beaten by Jones when they we're both undefeated with the same amount of fights! After that he fought bloated welters and when he took on a middleweight he got beat twice by Taylor!
He couldn't beat Calzaghe who couldn't break an egg but Bernard wasn't willing to put his ballzz down and try to win!!!
Don't glorify Bernard as a great fighter in the middleweight division theres plenty of guys that I pick over him and as a lightheavy he's no where near the best top tier!
I don't dislike the man in fact I get a kick out of him but I'm not putting him in the same catagory as the ATG's if you want to thats fine by me but in my opinion he's good and that not bad!! Ray
