And that's how Dundee told it.

But thanks for the history lesson.
I've never heard of Dundee calling him "Muhammad" during the first Liston fight.

He didn't announce himself as Muhammad Ali immediately after the fight.

Ali publicly announced his name change the day after the first Liston fight.

There weren't any mics in the corner, so how could you? He said it in a documentary on the fight. And it was simple, but excellent advice.

I said the day after, which is what he did.

Didn't he originally call himself "Cassius X" the day after the first Liston fight?

No that was the name he himself thought about taking, but the "honourable elijah Muhammad" gave him his name. And it was announced a day after the fight.

As the saying goes, you stole my thunder! I don't recall in what fight it was given, but it is the most clever and witty advice I know of. I like to think it's what Angelo Dundee said to Clay on his blurred vision from the substance on Liston's glove, in addition to, or instead of "run." (above)

I just Googled the words "hit the one in the middle" and they turned-out to be purely fictional - it was from one of the ROCKY movies. It's what Rocky's cornerman said to him in his fight with "Drago."

                I'm crushed!

Actually dundee did say hit the one in the middle.
The fighter was sugar Ray Leonard against Marco's Geraldo a middleweight with supposedly a china chin. This fellow hurt ray badly and had him seeing three Marco's. It is kinda interesting for a fighter that was stopped quite a few times he went the distance with marvin hagler and Ray. Both Mike Trainer and leonard complained about angelo picking marco as an opponent believing this fight may have caused his eye injury.

Geraldo did have a lot of KO losses, yet he easily went the distance with Leonard and Hagler in their primes.
