To start with Dempsey fought in the 1920's early 30's. People talk as if they saw him fight live and talk about his opponents the same way...... Who on this site was alive at this time and saw him fight?!?

From what Historians say and newspapers from the time yeh Jack Dempsey was a good fighter. But for people to start saying he would destroy most heavy weights are talking out their ass.

People say Haye's a ***** etc etc Haye is a born fighter watch the Chisora press conference brawl Haye took on Chisora and his crew on his own. Haye is a lot of things but a ***** he isn't.

Haye with the little gloves from the 20's would smash Dempsey to pieces.

Dempsey is a small guy Haye wouldn't show him any respect and would KO him. Comparing Haye's fight to 6ft 5inch 250lbs Klitschko and using that for a reason he would lose to 6ft 180lbs Dempsey is laughable ha ha ha.

and before anyone starts telling me how great Dempsey was, were you alive in the 20's and over 5 years old? did you watch him live? if the answer is NO then you can't be critical of people choosing Haye.

The only thing that sounds like someone talking out of their A** is this comment.

I still can't see how so many people believe that Dempsey would "murder" Haye. Yes I know he is a legend and people love to reminisce about the good ol' days but lets get real. Haye has all the physical advantages. I just don't see how Haye loses. People will mention Dempsey's power but will not mention Haye's power. I personally think Haye KOs the much smaller Dempsey who has never seen a physical specimen like Haye.

I wasn't around in the 1920's. But I still know that Babe Ruth was one of the greatest baseball players ever.

Haye is an impressive physical specimen. His performances in heavyweight fights have been considerably less impressive though.

Take a look at Ken Norton - then take a look at chris arreola. Arreola is 30 pounds overweight. He should be walking into fights at 210 max. Klitschko and Lewis were in good shape but few other fighters really are in excellent shape over 220 pounds.

I would also say that Tyson would have hit just as hard at 205 instead of 215. The extra 10 pounds made him look like a brick wall but I'm not too certain it added that much extra power.

Tyson patterned himself after Dempsey and I don't think he hit all that much harder. How sure are you that Haye would walk through Tyson? Now imagine a Tyson who didn't lose his confidence and will when things got tough. Image a Tyson who turned into an Arturo Gatti when things got tough - then you would have a good picture of Dempsey.

Haye, in my mind, is a contender - at best. In no era does he lead the pack. It's a testimony to how poor the heavyweight division currently is for him even to be talked about.

What make you believe modern athletes are so superior to earlier ones - especially in a fighting sport? Look at baseball - pitchers are not throwing harder today than did Walter Johnson, Cy Young, Bob Feller. And certainly don't bring up the Olympics that is a false comparison.

I can't believe so many are giving Haye a chance. A cruiserweight club fighter stopped Haye so why not Dempsey? I see the intensity of Dempsey as too much for Haye. Dempsey brought the pain and Haye doesn't like pain obviously. Dempsey would have run that whale turd out of the ring. Haye might even quit before the KO.
