  • How good was Eusebio Pedroza?

I've read that he was one of the dirtiest fighters in boxing. But he was also very good and had a very impressive run as WBA featherweight champion. Why did he not attempt to unify the title?

Really good and an underrated FW. He would've fought Sanchez but Sanchez died and then Pedroza seemed happy to do his title run. Gomez was pretty much finished by that point too. Shame.

But yeah, he was a ******, ****** fighter.

I thought he was pretty good. He had an impressive run at featherweight champion. I wouldn't say he was one of the dirtiest but he did get away with a bunch of dirty tactics but he also had skills.

Wasn't babied from start to finish! He was in tuff and lost some fights early but his record has some big names at it!!!! I think he still is the longest reigning Feather King or most defenses one or the other!
He wasn't a dirty fight at all he "extended" his beliefs in the ring thats all!
          He could fight in any era and hold his own, his era was pretty good as it was with;
          B. McGuigan
          Pat Ford
          Juan Laporte'
          Ruben Olivarez
          Zamora
          J. Malvarez
          B. Taylor
          R. Lockridge
          J. Aba
..................took a peek at boxrec, not a bad class of guys then. Ray.

A cunning overachiever who really knew his way around the ring. He really benefited from 15 round fights as he seemed to pull away from his opponents late after looking ordinary early. He wasn't my personal favorite to watch and I was delighted when McGuigan finally beat him.

He had a very shrewd interpretation of the rule book, and sometimes could be selective in his approach to complying with it. Good fighter, very smart in the ring.

A top, top fighter. Can remember the way McGuigan remained genuinely respectful of Pedroza in the build-up to their fight and seemed to know that he was going in with the very best.

Barry (rightly) did not buy into all the tabloid press hype and understood that he would have to reach another level to beat Pedroza.

One of the first fights I followed as a very young boxing fan and can clearly recall Pedroza looking huge, properly cut and ice-calm before the fight.

I honestly feel, that as great as Salvador Sanchez was, he wanted no parts of Eusebio Pedroza.A high risk, low reward situation, and yet, he was going to try to get a match against Alexis Arguello, which I'm pretty sure he wouldn't have won.

Would have been an interesting fight. I wondered why there was no unification match between them. It's the same curiosity I've always had with Cuevas-Palomino.
