considering they are both inside fighters this actually benefits Marciano. Frazier would fight the fight Rocky wants, but at the same time Frazier was stronger and more Durable then the top guys Rocky beat. It would def put Rocky into perspective if we knew the outcome. Fraziers resume is indeed better but we don’t know if he beats Rocky, who I think is heavier handed.
Frazier beats everybody Marciano beat ...

Its funny though, had Rocky not ever fought Charles and Walcott I’m certain nobody would watch the tapes and pick Rocky to Win. Rocky had a deceptive style about him but also a will of iron (I mean everyone knows this but might as well say it again).Comment

Joe coming up like Rock would beat every opponent Rock beat, but Rock would have lots of problems with guy Frazier came up against like Bonavena, Machen, Doug Jones, Ellis, ect, and esp Buster Mathis that won him his first title.Comment

now the counter argument is the bigger oponents that stood still more, Like even an old Louis’ Rocky seemed to hurt even more. Now Louis is totally finished so im not using it as a valid point for how Louis would fare, but rather how a bigger man would fair getting hit by Rocky. Louis was hit by huge men in his prime and didnt go down. Smaller men did the job though.
frazier to me is gonna take a better shot than Moore and Walcott, and hes going to have more staying power in the later rounds. However theres this Wildcard that if it turns into a fight Rocky still might come out on top, even if he tastes the canvas. I only say this because often in the later rounds of a fight when Rocky has been dropped early or the fight is close on the cards, he seemed to get into this desparate reservoir of violence that nobody could match.
if you look at Fraziers career, hes often smothering taller fighters and actually dominates inside because taller fighters cant really fight inside. He struggled more with Bonavena because Bonavena was a bit shorter. Foreman beat him because he was allowed to push joe repeatedly and not get points taken off or dqd. Otherwise Foreman would have to stick and move and keep spinning Frazier or just lying on the ropes and hoping to fight in spurts. Ali couldnt shove him off like George so it became a long 3 nights for Ali and permanent damage. Henry armstrong did the same thing in multiple weight classes.
rocky has a lot of experience fighting men his height and taller. But in general hes gonna fair better inside with shorter arms and more experience against men his height. Fraziers got speed and snap, he can make Rocky miss and hit him hard all night back. I think at the end of the day though heart and courage may prevail for Rocky. Could be wrong though.Comment

My thing is this with Rocky, he had to work pretty hard to get his wins over Moore, Walcott and Charles. He had the capability to work that hard and did. Now they were skillful light heavies at that, and all had good defense. However the effect of Rockys blows on a light heavy are just too much even for the greatest lhws of all time.

"Frazier was a slight 6-5 favorite in a fight that captivated both the nation and the world. Not only were the fighters making money that seemed insane at the time, but the fight itself was expected to bring in anywhere from $20 million to $30 million once all the proceeds were tallied."
BTFO? Ali went to the hospital to have his swollen jaw examined, he was in there less than an hour. Frazier spent two weeks in the hospital after the fight.Last edited by Ivich; 04-14-2022, 06:04 AM.Comment

Joe in the hospital for a congenital high blood pressure condition that likely had been managed by blood pressure drugs. Don't know the specifics, but could be he went off his meds for this fight when you understand what blood pressure meds of that era did to male sexual function. Joe was in danger of dying because they couldn't get his BP down.Comment
