He shouldn't be in anyone's top 10. He's outside of it.

In a head to head sense I'd say he is very much top ten. Its hard trying to think of ten heavyweights in history who'd be expected to beat prime 1988 Tyson.

Probably De La Hoya vs Floyd Mayweather Jr with Tyson vs Holyfield ll being 2nd to that.

The quitting on the stool part - http://sports.espn.go.com/sports/box...ory?id=2083271

this article effectively proves his corner had very little part in the incident.

By embarrassing himself in front of Holyfield, I meant the 'ear' incident.

And as for, the Ruddock fight, both had equally low willpower. I'm making a case for Tyson being a top 10 all time HW great here, so, say against someone with tremendous heart like Marciano, Tyson would crumble.

Those quotes come from the post fight interview, Tyson didn't retire himself. I have the fight in my collection and I don't think I'm wrong in remembering his trainer Jeff Fenech admonishing Tyson for pulling rough house tactics when the fight clearly wasn't going his way and saying that he was pulling him out as a 'legend'. Yea Tyson was spent, but I don't doubt that he'd have walked out for round seven.

Not that it matters now; 2005 Tyson was 38, unmotivated, fighting above his ideal weight....20 years a pro with numerous substance/money issues. No comparison to the guy of the late 80s.

I wouldn't say that Ruddock had low willpower, he got up from decent knockdowns in both Tyson fights and fought well. No one could say that the losses to Lewis or Morrison were down to 'low willpower'.

As for Marciano's heart and will power, its beyond dispute. But it doesn't mean that he'd necessarily beat Tyson.....though his chances at a win increase dramatically after the sixth round.

My fear is that if Walcott and Moore can hurt and knock him down and if Ezzard Charles can smash his face to pieces and near as dammit have his nose hanging off (as in their second fight) then I'd worry what a bigger, younger, faster, more powerful Tyson might achieve before the Rock even got into his rhythm.

Actually he never quit on his stool he was pulled out of the fight by his trainer. I am not defending what he did against Holyfield either but to me thats more of him flipping out.

I think its more to do with his inability to outthink his opponent and adapt in a fight he was losing. He got frustrated but he would keep coming and the lennox fight he was way past his prime and took loads of punishment from lewis and yeh he did give up because he new he couldnt adapt and outbox lewis but he kept coming and took a beating. I think people underate his heart, check him out against pinklon thomas, id say that was tyson showing alot of heart when he was tierd and struggling to knock someone out
