Tyson Douglas rematch

Long count yes, but Douglas still picked up the count and was getting up no matter how fast that count was. The fight ended when it was supposed to and that's just an excuse.

Yeah it often gets forgotten that Mike had 4 fights after the Douglas loss before the **** incident. Odd that an undisputed champ was unable to secure a rematch with Douglas or the guy that beat him (Holyfield,) during that time. But yeah, Tyson would've starched Douglas in the rematch especially if he showed up out of shape.

Tyson - Holyfield was scheduled to happen in 1991 but got put back because Tyson broke a rib in training but then got called off because of the **** trial and conviction.

I also think Tyson was demoralized after the long count in the 8th at which point the fight should've been over. Without the special circumstances of Douglas' mother just passing away and no one (including Mike) giving him a chance in hell, no way Buster wins the rematch.

Tyson was demoralized by getting his ass beaten, dreamer. The "long count" view of this fight is how a deluded 12 year old kid would look at it....unable to accept the defeat of his superhero.

There was much more to Douglas beating Tyson. With weeks to go to the bout, Douglas lost his mother. He went into the fight with an emotional mindset where "My mom has just died, nothing else can hurt me as much." he would not be beaten. Tyson, or any other ATG would not have beaten Douglas that night with that mental fortitude within him.

However, a return bout and that emotional aspect out of the equation, Tyson crucifies him.

I do agree with douglas being super douglas that night but I can't see tysons previous opponents beating tyson, with that same will. Guys that tyson dint knockout, he still beat them from the early rounds to the end. Tyson couldn't touch douglas that night! I still see a tough rematch for tyson coz douglas has the confidence of knowing how to beat him but he slips up and tyson wins by knockout round 5 onward

Good Lord! Douglas was hardly head to head the greatest heavyweight ever for that one night only!

He was damn good that night; but if Tyson can knock him down for a 9 count with a one punch blow......I'd hardly venture that the cream of heavyweight history would have trouble keeping him down.

If Buster shows up in the same poor shape as he did for Holyfield, he gets blown out early. A well conditioned Douglas would still be an uncomfortable matchup for Tyson, but I think he wins the rematch. IMO, Douglas caught lightening in a bottle that night in Japan.
