      Probably to honor the WBA and IBF titles which still had the 15 round limit. WBA changed to 12 rounds a week later.

            I think it was the last heavyweight title fight set for 15 rounds. Remember that it was only a year earlier that Spinks met Holmes in 1986 over 15 rounds. 1987 seems to be the last year of the 15 rounds. Off the top of my head I can't think of any 15 round bouts set in 1988.

              That was directly after the Holmes fight: 'Larry Holmes was a legendary fighter, and if he was at his best I wouldn't have stood a chance.....he is a great fighter'.

              Mike was probably being overly modest in the elation of victory. But prime for prime, Holmes may well have won in my opinion.

                How could you forget the 15th round of Jorge Paez - Calvin Grove?



                Or round 15 of Orlando Canizales - Kelvin Seabrooks I ?

                There were others but these two were hard to forget.

                      Even as boxing ignant a publication as Sports Illustrated was pointing out that Holmes had noticeably slipped at the time of the David Bey fight.
