Tyson destroyed the iron chinned Pinklon Thomas by way of brutal KO and beat Biggs into submission for 7 rounds before getting the KO over him.

This thread is just idiotic ... if Tyson is not an ATG then there is no such thing as an ATG ... his impact on the sport is enough to propel him to that status and his greatness being questioned is an insult .... even when he was shot to hell he was STILL the biggest star in boxing. Look at how many guys have "Tyson" as a part of their nickname or moniker.

His resume is as good as can be considering what time frame he was active in. His accomplishments have never been duplicated so why is his status as an ATG even questioned? Now his heart is being questioned when he's fought on with a blown knee and took an 8 round beating without giving in?

Show me another boxer with the same combination of power, speed, durability and skill as Mike Tyson. At his peak he was arguably top 3 in all of those categories. Not even Ali who is considered to be the best heavyweight was ever top 3 in all of those categories ... SRR, the man who is lauded as the "GOAT", was never top 3 in all of those categories.

No one in boxing history ever beats a prime Mike Tyson.

Only a moron would care if a shot ATG "quits" or loses at the end of the road.

Joe Louis was knocked out through the ropes in his last fight ... Ali was a punching bag for Holmes and lost to Trevor Berbick ... does that make them lesser fighters? Of course not. Tyson, Louis and Ali were all at the end of their careers and all 3 were basically fighting for money.

I don't hold these losses heavily against them when evaluating their rankings.

How on earth was SRR not ever in the top 3 of "power, speed, durability and skill." Slow down. At Welterweight, he was all of the above. And Mike was never among the top 3 skill fighters in the sport. Durability is a question mark too. He could take a bad beating in his losses, but there is more to it than that. Truly durable greats could take it and give it back. Mike never really showed that ability in a grueling fight.

Duran quit right in the middle of the fight too

Didn't even finish the round and quit because of embarrassment ... Tyson was actually beating McBride on the scorecards when he "quit."

I was at McBride. Mike went down without being hit at one point. He was begging to quit in the ring. It was so bad the ref was like "are you getting up?" He was done. I'd never hold it against him, but it happened.

On the initial question, of course Mike is an ATG. he's one of the top 15-20 Heavies of all time. Forget P4P...in a literal sense, that makes him one of the best men to ever lace gloves. Literal matters too. And he was TYSON. Star power and accomplishment in combination was a rare package. He wasn't AS good as some thought he could be but was plenty bad ass enough.

Tyson was NOT at the end of the road with Evander, he fianally fought a guy who wasn't going to back off. Mike could have chosen to fight.....he didn't! Stop this BS about the ATG Tyson I watched him spar when he was 15 and handled him in fights in the amatuers and followed his career far closer than you tysonBomb your brown nose just gets ridiculous at times!'As for Duran he was a terrfic fighter at LIGHTWEIGHT, sorry Duran fans after that it was Money Duran!

Tyson is the only fighter who has 5 career changes as if he fought for 30 years!
His first fights were aghainst the biggest local guys that had the least amount of power that Cus and Veto could find!! He actually fought a few too many lightweights (power) he was best with Cus and Jimmy and Teddy, once Cus & Jimmy & Teddy were gone and it was just Kevin then the other corners with King Tyson was nothing!!! He wasn't to OLD he just had no cover anymore he was exposed!! You don't know what I know you weren't there.
Grow up and study Joe Louis then you'll have a new hero who would back up Tyson and get rid of him quicker than Evander did!! Ray

Duran was terrific at Welterweight too until he got the Leonard win. He did Brooks and Palomino with a floruish.

As to Tyson-Holy, Holy had WAY more miles on him, had looked bad his last two fights, and Tyson was starting to show form again. His problem was Evander took the big shot and buzzed him back, then bullied back after the bell. Holy ate his heart early.

How much of SRR at welterweight have you seen?

Tyson had an iron chin and his skill was unparalleled. He could throw any kind of punch from any kind of angle. He also had good footwork and very difficult to hit. Robinson relied on his athletic abilities more than skill.

Learn what durability means. Robinson was hurt by Kid Gavilan several times and was even knocked down by Tommy Bell while fighting at welterweight. Tyson was never floored in his prime.

hard to do that when your opponents are just holding on to you trying to survive.
