cooper hurt him the most but shavers hit him with the most devastating punch.
incase you wonder how shavers punch could be more devastating yet do less damage the answer is ali took a better punch later in his career. alot of ppl think you cant improve your punch resistance but thats nonsense, knowing how to absorb punches is a taught skill not just physical durability. stamina and mental strenght plays a big part too which can also be increased.

Shavers is the hardest hitter Ali faced, but I have no doubt the single biggest and best punch he was ever hit with was that Frazier left hook that floored him.
If the Ali who fought Shavers took that same left hook from Frazier there is no way he gets up.
There are two punches I think of most when wondering what are the hardest punches I've seen a guy get up from- the Frazier hook on Ali and the Shavers right on Holmes.

Ali always got up. He'd get up from that Frazier hook in 1977 too. When Ali got hit by Shavers it looked like he'd just ran into a freight train, his punch resistance in 1977 was every bit as good as in 1971.
Whilst the 1971 left hook was probably the best looking single punch that Ali got hit with, I've got a sneaking su****ion that some of Frazier's left hooks in rounds 5 & 6 of the Thrilla in Manilla were probably harder, some were pretty sickening even though Ali stayed up.
Another factor in 1971 was fatigue. It was round 15 of course, but even then, Ali didn't appear as hurt after taking the left hook that dropped him as some of the really disgusting left hooks that in round 11 that had him reeling jelly legged from pillar to post.
Still a great punch though!!
