The question isn't the hardest punch, but the most devastating punch. The punch from Frazier came closer to KOing Ali than any one shot from Shavers did.
I don't know how much looking up the word "devastating" helps, unless one begins in the first place with the assumption that leaving one's feet necessarily indicates a greater level of "destruction" or "distress" , a fighter can be out on his feet after all.

Anyway, here is Ali on it.

I'm not gonna even bother watching that. I know Ali says Shavers is the hardest hitter he's ever faced, and he is right. But, the left hook Frazier hit him with was a better and more devastating shot than whatever Shavers hit him with.

Thomas Tate will tell you Julian Jackson is the hardest puncher he's faced....and I'd agree. But, Julian never landed a punch as devastating as the punch Roy Jones hit him with.

That doesn't mean anything though, it was the 15th round. If you want to use that as a criteria, why not argue the first left hook in the 11th round that hurt Ali.

Agreed... Ali was leaning straight back when he took the shot in the 15th, which likely contributed to him going down. It was a great shot and a great photo opportunity for Joe, but remember that Ali got up within seconds and went right back into battle.

I was about to mention that when I read this. Ali was absolutely out on his feet in the 11th and that was when the fight had turned irreversibly for Frazier.

I mentioned the 11th round earlier on this thread too. When Ali got hit flush on the ropes by Frazier's left hook it certainly looked more 'devestating' to me, Ali's resulting leg dip and the follow up jelly legs for the rest of the round indicate to me that he was more hurt in the 11th than in the 15th round.

To be fair I've seen refs stop fights for less than how Ali was in the 11th. There was no danger of the fight being stopped in the 15th round.

I think shavers was the most thudding

                But fraziers was the hardest.

I also believe shavers knocked him out and woke him back up with that shot lol

I've heard Ali wasn't the same after Shavers.
