And it's becoming clear that that's pretty much the only thing you know about boxing.

By the way, if we're talking about "cheating", you should know that Tyson was probably the best elbow-thrower in HW history.

Not to mention hitting on the break, hitting after the bell, hitting with forearms, hitting low, using the head himself, ect ect ect. Hell, about the only foul Mike didn't master was rabbit punching and that's only because his arms were too short to reach around the back of opponents heads :chuckle9:

both had the ability to look equally spectacular against the layman. those types of opponents put their gifts on display. roy's gifts were his speed and reflexes. tyson's gift was his power.

when tyson fought great fighters at their peaks he lost to them.

roy jones made james toney look like a boy scout.

roy jones accomplished more in boxing, and in my opinion he's the "better" of the two boxers

          I have Jones #6 all-time at Light-Heavyweight.

I'm not di*****g that Mike had skills I just don't rate him as high as others. Once he stood up out of the crouch he stood up into punches! Look at the fights!! The fights he scored KOs in were against ordinary guys that were known as "opponents". Tysons early opponents were hand picked by his management and a few were from Vito Tallerita who had the largest "opponents" stable in the country.
You guys don't know what it took to get Mike were he was and everyone knew there was going to be stumbling blocks ahead with Evander and Lennox!
Thats the bottom line and how it went down.
Roy had more athletic ability, and was taught to box in a style that he could maintain as he grew older. Tyson didn't! Ray.

sugarj Spinks lost both bouts to Holmes. Holmes did his own thing all through his career the firsdt Spinks decision was a "payback" for Larry being so indepediant! Spinks as a heavy is a JOKE!
You make no sense. Roy had less boxing skills than Tyson which is why he gets KOed ever other fight these days. Dude has been exposed in the area of conventional boxing skills ... Hopkins even said the same thing. His style suits him less than Tyson's did after aging. Moreover, Roy DUCKED dangerous fighters his entire career and only had 2 notable victories: Hopkins and Toney and he didn't KO any of them so I have no idea why you're bringing up Tyson and his KO victories.

Larry Holmes, Michael Spinks, Razor Ruddock were not "ordinary" and Tyson KOed them all. Frank Bruno, Tony Tubbs and Pinklon Thomas were other very good fighters that may have become dominant if Tyson hadn't been around but he Mike KOed them as well. He never came close to losing a fight with Kevin Rooney in his corner and he would've smashed Holyfield to dust and break Lewis in the same night if he had Rooney training him. Rooney himself mentioned that Tyson stopped moving his head and utilizing his elusiveness as early as the Douglas fight.

Also I didn't say Mike was the most angelic heavyweight ever ... Yes he did throw bows during clinches and occasionally using his head but he didn't make it part of his fighting repertoire. Holyfield literally used his head as another fist and made it part of his combinations. Remember what he did to Rahman's head?

And every time Mike got hurt during the Holyfield fights, it was due to Holyfield bashing his head into Mike's. Dude opened a cut and literally wobbled Mike with his serial headbutting. You cannot deny that it changed the outcome of both fights .. that is the most unequivocal, irrefutable FACT there is. Tyson's throwing occasional elbows to his opponents didn't change the outcome of his fights.

He literally used his head as much if not more than his fists ... and why the hell is his head lower than Mike's during his fights with him? He's nearly 3 inches taller.

In fact here is Holyfields most potent combination:

I think its well known that I'm one of the bigger Larry Holmes fans in these parts. But I'm nobodies nuthugger. Those Spinks fights were damn close. Spinks only became known as a joke after the Tyson loss.

No contest, Tyson hands down, by virtue of his KO record alone.
