Which HWs past and present would have had a good chance of beating a 70s Foreman?

I don't agree with the sonny liston picks and also no brawler can be considered as favourite against him even Tyson. I honestly think with his mind right Foreman would be unbelievable, could you imagine what old foreman's head on young foreman's shoulders would have been? ... I'll tell you ... INVINCIBLE

I am going off not only my observations, but those of Monte Cox.
You're really contradicting yourself here though. If it's after the Ali fight, it wasn't the 'real Foreman' because he was past his prime(laughable idea to me, still) and against Ali, it wasn't the 'real Foreman' because he fought ****** and gassed.
Ali beat him fair and square, even after totally beating him mentally he had to absorb a tremendous amount of punishment to beat him physically, punishment I don't think any other heavyweight could take. The debate is over who else could do it.
It's never how good their opponents is, never a consideration that the reason he did this or that wrong is because his skilled opponent MADE him do it, and THEY deserve that credit instead of just claiming Foreman wasn't himself. I mean you claim he fought ****** in his losses but the truth is his opponents simply got the better of him. This imo makes him one of the most overrated heavyweights. He's too adored by a lot of fans and they prefer to remember him as this untouchable, indestructable monster who could only lose to the Greatest. Some fighters get heavily scrutinised for past prime claims but Big George seems to get a free pass. The double standards have annoyed me.
It is my opinion that the Foreman who fought Ali, and the Foreman before that, would have overpowered and bombed out both men. But my observation (as well as that of Monte Cox, again) is that Foreman fought a different fight after Ali. He tried to fight at a more measured pace, one which did not suit him.
It is that gameplan which let Lyle get his best shots off first, and which allowed Young to out box him. Young beat him fairly, Lyle came close, that's beyond arguement, what I'm saying is that this is only a physically prime Foreman.
You're not really addressing that.

if foreman and and liston were to fight 10 times with all factors remaining equal i feel liston would come away with 6-7 wins. liston had a superior array of skills in defence and boxing ability to call on and for these reasons i feel liston walks away the victor more often than foreman.Last edited by Capaedia; 08-09-2012, 07:08 PM.

IMO any top level Hwt who makes it past 7 rds beats 70s George. In those days his stamina was very poor. I think Holyfield, Ali(obviously), Holmes, Lewis, Vitali, Bowe all beat him. Frazier(obviously), Wlad, Tyson, Marciano, all get KOes before 7

For the most part, I don't think there were many fighters that would have had a really good shot at beating him.
70s Foreman was a beast. He wasn't a particularly talented boxer but his strength, power and relentlessness was scary, enough to almost completely make up for the former.
What say you?

I mean, obviously guys fought him. But no one went in there with him and wasn't afraid. He was a scary guy, very scary. He looked scary on the TV. He took intimidating to a whole other level.
The only person more intimidating, to me, was Sonny Liston. But that may well be because I was very young then Liston was fighting.
Foreman and Liston in the same era would have been something to behold.
