Why do Brits sing for their fighters?

Well frankly, I find it kind of annoying and turn down the sound when I happen to be watching an American fighting a British fighter because of it. Why not just cheer for your fighter to encourage him or cheer when he actually does something good?
As for cheering for a team and going to games, even when they're not good, well, that's just pointless. It tells the owners of a team that they have no incentive to improve the team, because they're still making money. It's more often when fans stop showing up that owners and GMs are embarrassed enough to make some improvements.

Brits tend to support through thick and thin.

I've lived Stateside for many years now & some NFL teams have rabid, excellent fans but others are really fickle. San Diego Charger fans are the worst. And people change teams! They actually switch teams that they support depending on a certain player or something.
I like the fans from the north best. Green Bay, Vikings & Lions all seem to have loyal fans.

That is actually ridiculous that they change teams depending on a player or whatever. I do think in Britain (like you said) once you have your team, that's it.
You're in it for life, come rain or shine.

And I know about suffering for your team. Been a West Ham fan for close to 40 years now.

Meanwhile we've dropped back down (Wolves fan). Then again seeing as we've been out of the Championship for 4 season since I've been a fan, it feels more like a homecoming.
I think you guys will do ok next season too. Big Sam, may not play the greatest stuff but he makes you hard to beat and he knows that division inside out.

Newcastle United fan here. Same thing I bought my first official jersey(Obafumi Martins) and then they get relegated, and Martins traded that same year. Oh well I still wore the jersey the whole year proudly with the Premier league patches on it. Even though I am American I understand the whole fan being loyal to the end thing. My dad is a HUGE Dallas Cowboys fan and even if they lost every single game he is there watching and cheering them on.Last edited by mehoe; 07-11-2012, 03:29 PM.

I love the chants and songs British fans bring to Boxing events. It pretty much stems from the way the person supports their football (soccer) club.
You see it as they are out there repersenting you and yours. So you give them your full backing and support regardless of how they are performing, how up against it they are, or even how limited the are.
Makes the event more fun, and the atmosphere more electric.
British fans sometimes get abit of a bad rep, but they are knowledgeable about the sports they follow and will always respect the opposition of the fighter they are supporting..as long as they are fair and leave it all in the ring.
