  • The reason why Duran quit in the 2nd Leonard fight...

I recollect Duran saying that after the rubber match with Sugar Ray he would finally give the real reason why he quit the 2nd. But did he ever?

    They had a Rubber match.

And Duran did say that. He said something along the lines of; "When I beat him, I gave him a rematch. So, when I decided to stop fighting, I knew he'd give me a rematch."

I remember his camp blamed no mas on stomach cramps caused by a steak dinner before the fight but the general consensus was that he was just frustrated.
Duran was a proud man and often people will give reasons rather than just say it wasn't my night.

I think that's just so abundantly clear.

He definitely just couldn't handle how the fight was going.

Duran was in piss poor condition, and Leonard fought with a perfect style to frustrate him. Like many of us do in real life (although in much lower profile circumstances), Duran made a poor judgement snap decision. I'm sure it haunted him everyday, or at least until he got redemption against Davey Moore.

Not only haunted him, but got heat for it in his home country for years.
