In that case, the fight definitely should've been stopped, as he looked in the direction of Chavez's corner, not his own!

Richard Steele asked him twice if he was okay and he didn't respond either time. If you're looking to blame someone for the stoppage, blame Meldrick Taylor for coming out and trying to pepper Chavez with combinations in the last round instead of boxing him smartly, with the fight already in the bag. Going into the last round JCC was done and Taylor shouldn't have given him the chance to get into range to land that shot.

I do blame Taylor but apparently, that's not how he fights. That's what I've heard anyway. I also blame him for not responding to the referee.

Taylor was looking at his trainer Lou Duva who was shouting at him. Steele asked him once and stopped the match at the same time he asked him again. Steele seemed in a hurry to complete the count and clearly rushed the stoppage, as if he knew that there wasn't much time left for JCC. Chavez was nowhere near a neutral corner, but Steele wasn't concerned about that in the least. I will always believe that Steele was a referee who protected the "house fighter".

I may repeat a few as i haven't read this entire thread.

Chavez-Randall 2: Not a stoppage in a classic sense. But it was among the worse technical decision stoppages. It was a mickey mouse Chavez cut only to bring a competitive match to the scorecards.

Tyson-Ruddock 1: I thought there should have more time given.

Pac-Hussein: Well if you saw what happened in round 4 than you know the cards were stacked against Hussein. Carlos Padilla did an atrocious job that night and he did give a home stoppage.

SRL-Howard: Horrible stoppage. I am not saying Howard was winning even though he did drop SRL in the fourth, but Howard should have been giving a standing eight, not stopped while he staggered around the ring. Aaron Pryor and Hagler who were ringside said it was a premature stoppage. The rules did allow for a standing eight count, and the referee failed to exercise such discretion.

Lennox lewis against McCall first fight. Every time I see that I think what a waste, he should have been allowed to get another chance.

I totally agree, but I'm not mad....I was so happy for Chico. My girlfriend and I were jumping around screaming (my girl started CRYING 'oh my God! oh my God! oh my God)....my next door neighbor knocked on my door to see if everything was alright.

Chavez was protected in general IMO. I mean, the fact that it took two points taken away by Steele for low blows to get Randall that decision win in their first fight to give Chavez his first loss was kind of ridiculous, it never should've even been that close, Randall was clearly winning that fight by a wide margin. And Whitaker got screwed out of a UD win against him as well. No wonder Duva didn't like the idea of Richard Steele for the fight.
