I noticed that! He got tremendously close.

I thought the whole team was very biased tonight.

Aye , way too close, could see Wayne everynow and then looking really nervously at him out the corner of his eye.

Our commentary team is 99.8% of the time very biased.

I've rewatched the fight and it's actually a lot closer than I orginally thought.

        Pac still won though.

Can you guys recommend me some southpaw fighters who throw in combinations, to the body and incorporate a Philly shell defense - either one of 'em.

Exclude Jirov, Hagler, Dawson, Pac, Winky Wright.

          Thanks.

Jose Luis Ramirez, good example is the Rosario fight, throws some great combos too the body.

            Rafael Limon
            Rolando Navarette
            Humberto Gonzalez

            All great body punchers.

You're not going too find many Southpaws using Philly Shell.

His defense is so underrated these days.

It was underrated back when he was active.

Arguello, the accurate puncher he is, had so much trouble finding him.

Thanks for the suggestions, why won't I find many southpaws employing it?

                Liver?

EDIT: I've read up about it.

Philly shell is best against an opponent of the same stance, which is why you mostly only see Orthodox boxers using it because there's obviously a hell of a lot more Orthodox then there is Southpaw.

Mostly too do with angles I guess, the Shoulder roll is there to take away the power from the straight right hand and the right hand is held back to catch the jab and / or is always in position to counter and lead, because you stand sideway on you can fire the right hand and bring it back while using the shoulder to block, while you're fighting a Southpaw the Southpaw can fire the right hook over the shoulder and land much easier then the straight right, same with the left straight and jab, vice versa if it's Southpaw using it. The liver would also be a factor but I'm guessing it's more too do with this, if a Southpaw uses it they're going to be fighting mostly Orthodox boxers and putting themselves at unnesecary risk, they're turning that advantage of being a Southpaw into a disadvantage, could use better and easier styles.

Probably got a little bit wrong but that's how I see it.

So what's a better defensive style for a southpaw?

Any really just not the Shell, being a Southpaw already puts you at a defensive advantage technically because it's harder to fight one again because of the angles, Hilario Zapata, Pernell Whitaker and Winky Wright are probably the 3 best defensive southpaws, Zapata and Whitaker both use the Philly shell too an extent but they mostly switch it up with the standard guard as well, always keeping the opponent guessing, both bend at their waist alot and put themselves in awkward positions too be hit, Winky of course was a prominent user of standard high guard.
