When you got the kind of Nitro-Glycerine that Ray had,, why not use it ?

Basilio is bad news for Mayweather but I feel Mays technical defense would carry him through the danderous rounds which end around 6 then mayweather picks him apart. I know robinson beats floyd but robinson was mor hitable than floyd that basilio did good against him.

I'm with JabsRStiff here. I feel Mayweather would take this on points. Of course volume and well placed aggression can bother Mr Mayweather, as it can to anyone. However I feel Mayweather at his best would know better than to try and trade with Basilio. Basilio of course would have his moments, most likely making it relatively unpleasant on the ropes by trapping Floyd.

However, all in all, even though Basilio had a terrific defence, Floyd's shots are incredibly accurate and hard to avoid. I see a fight in which it goes the full 15, with Floyd taking the early lead and Basilio outworking and taking the last rounds on aggression in a fight scored something like 9-6/9-7-1.

Would be interesting too see if Floyd could keep his boxing up for 15 rounds against a monster like Carmen.
This post reflects my opinion the most. And I think Floyd would be an excellent 15 round fighter. He always finishes stronger than his opponents.

If Basilio had film of Floyd and could train for that style, I think he would win.

I'm not going to vote as I've only seen Basilio's bouts with Robinson, but McGoory mate, you're coming across as a bit resentful of Mayweather.

He's beat everyone put in front of him, and I don't think it's a coincidence that the ones he wasn't able to fight were all promoted by the same man who holds a grudge against him. The only reason the Cotto fight happened is because he ditched Arum.

He used to be humble, but people just called him boring. Cut him a little slack

Tough call, I would probably bet on Basilio in their first fight, but expect Mayweather to improve throughout a series.

                  basillio wins in most cases.

theres really alot more to it then floyd vs basilio.

like what do they weigh and where are they in their carrers when they weighed that.

like with a 153 lb basilio that just beat Srr floyds closes weight would be 151 when he just fought cotto.

is the floyd that just fought cotto beating the basilio that just beat a 7 lb heavier robinson?

                  I dont think so.

so then you lower the weight to something mayweather is more comfortable with, but at the same time floyd would have to fight a much younger closer to prime basilio, so even then the winner isnt cut and dry.

the weight might become a bit of an issue, given basillio's durability, but i dont see any reason why a prime mayweather wouldnt be able to outbox him for the majority of the rounds, given his advantages in speed and length, and his boxing abilities.

mayweather on points in the modern era and with ten ounce gloves. basillio's grill would probably get roughed up a bit as well.

                    now
put it in the 50's with small gloves, a small ring, and judging that doesnt favor floyd's defensive stylings, and you could very well have a UD 15 for the onion farmer.

as basilio always said, if he was as easy to hit as he's made out to be he wouldnt have been a hall of famer. he had craft.

We just saw Cotto do a reasonably good job against Floyd and Basillo would be psuring Floyd simularly as Cotto did once in a while. The differences are that Cotto can't punch and he can't sustain an attack! Other than Pacman theres very few fighters that train to maintain a sustained attack on their opponents and Basillo would do just that for Mayweather. A huge difference is that the era of WW then was the best ever and to compete against that top ten was a huge task. They defeated one another at will and Mayweather would be a second division guy unless he showed a much higher competitive nature. Counter punching could only be a method used at an appropriate time. Trying to fight that style against those WW would get him in alot of trouble. Those men could punch harder than the fellows today because their power punching techniques were superior.
I do think it could be a great fight because Carmen was not a big WW as to height and that might help Floyd abit but I doubt that Floyd could success inside because fighters today are more boxers than fighters and their time in the amatuer ranks works against them in fantasy fights against the likes of the men from the 20s up thru 60s.
If it was fought back then I see Basillo winning on TKO, if it were fought now a days I see Basillo possibly getting haulted on cuts and abrasions but that meand Floyd has to fight and box!! Boxing then was a brutal battle because the men participating became that way. They fought often and hard or they wouldn't get on cards. It was a different business then and frankly the fellows today wouldn't have the same successes they have now if they fought then. Can you imagine Mayweather fighting 18 times a year for 3 or 4 years in a row? I can't! Plus a counter guy wouldn't get on cards then anyway, they were boring then just as they are now! Ray
