To try and reply to a few comments

That must have been Archie Moore I am guessing? He had a lot of favourites but Archie Moore and Willie Pep I remember were huge favourites of his. Marciano too, I recall him mentioning that he always winced a bit at some of the stick Rocky got in here. "We knew he was clumsy 50 years ago they ain't discovered it recently" Ring a bell?

He always was interested in hearing everyone’s view. “Don’t learn unless you stop talking”
He was very quotable my Grandfather.

He wasn’t a great fan of arguments especially over something like an opinion. His view was if you got to shout or insult you can’t think your opinion holds much water.

The messages I keep getting in Pms and on here was a classy guy. To attempt to guess a GJC quote “I’ll settle for that get them to chip that into the granite”

To reassure everyone he didn't suffer. We are burying him on Thursday so maybe raise a glass for him then.

    Thank you all again
Thanks for getting back to me John and it is comforting to know he didnt suffer. All the best for Thursday and i will make a point of raising a glass to him up here in Scotland.

        It sure was Archie

One of my favourite fighters, Harold Johnson, had a legendary rivalry with Archie Moore and they had 5 fights and sadly, my guy only won one of them But the 5th fight Archie got off my the skin of his teeth and the amount of times I reminded him of that he made sure he reminded about the other 3 times Moore whooped Johnson.

Just found this out from IronDanHamza's sig. Very sad indeed.

There was something quite beautiful about the fact that idea that he was able to interact with fellow fans in such a way at this stage of his life.

              Always enjoyed his posts.

              RIP.

Thanks for the taking the time to read through and reply. George was one of the few guys who truly brought everyone together in the history section and could stop an insignificant argument with a few choice words and wisdom.

He was one of the wisest and most gentle internet buddies we all had here in the history section. I hope all went well, I said my prayers for him, on Thursday. We'll all meet face to face one day again and be able to chat for hours on end on Marciano, Moore and Pep.

It's obvious he had a great family, and I hope it's some small comfort that you know what an effect he had on those here and how highly thought of he was universally. He will be deeply and truly missed by all who knew him. He was a great friend to all of us here in the history section.
