A Gatti comes around once in a generation, the hype, the following, the blood, and the action. Personally I always thought Micky Ward was more exciting but Gatti was more legendary

Liked Gatti and Ward but to be fair fighters like that used to come along once a week in the 50s we used to call them club fighters.
They showed up better in these days of over protected cherry picking fighters but whilst they would have been popular in the 50s they wouldn't have had as much impact.
Yes I know I sound an old fart

****, i miss diego corrales also....i agree with the fact that i dont think gatti should be put in the HOF, maybe his trilogy with ward could be but not him as a fighter, the HOF shouldnt be based on blood and guts warriors/fan favs, but i still miss the hypeness of his fights...hes def a peoples champ in the sence of how he brought more fans out and the fans loved him and could kinda relate since he did lose sometimes and wasnt an undefeated straight to the hall fighter.

There's always going to be Gatti-types who make exciting two-way fights. Katsidis fits the mold, but is a lesser fighter. Morales, Chacon, and Saad are among those who were better than Gatti.

Dont know why people are shaking their heads if hes inducted. Wtf? Its not the hall of elite, its the hall of FAME. Fame doesnt mean best of the best, its short for famous, and i take that as being rememerable. Meaning anybody who could have a special place in your heart that attracts fans and can be remembered. Gatti is like tyson. Accomplishments wise hes not an atg, but both were world class attractions.

As far as their being another one idk because their are warriors but after they get ko'd they get gun shy. Like katsidtis who can **** but doesn't have the speed and is not the fearless warrior he use to be but gatti did that too tho in the last fffew years.

Their just aren't as many warriors as their use to be. Not a lot of fighters who just wanna say **** it let's just scrap! That's what gatti was. Now its all about points. Gatti was one of the last of a dying breed....:weedbear:

Tyson's ring accomplishments far surpass Gatti's. So does his fame for that matter.

If you took the time to read the post that I was responding to, you'd see the part where he said "Gatti is like Tyson".

It's a hard thing to judge Gatti's career really.

The kid was actually a pretty good boxer with wicked power. Early on, he could actually box pretty well (watch the tracey patterson title fights for example), but he ended up as an action style fighter, and once that happened, he seemed to be that for the rest of his career. Who could blame the guy, it won him many fans and multiple millions of dollars and got him several fight of the year honors, and won him a few title belts.

Add to the fact that he obviously lived a VERY hard lifestyle outside of the ring, and it's amazing to us true Gatti fans that he succeeded as well as he did. I mean a hard partier like he was still accomplished what he did was quite amazing IMO.

I know he had pretty good skills and excellent power, and sometimes I wonder how much better he could have fared in his biggest bouts had he been dedicated. I am not saying he'd have beaten the likes of Oscar and PBF, but who knows?

Sad to say, the way he went out was disgusting, and hopefully his money grubbing witch that killed him gets what she deserves!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We already have another warrior like that today. His name is Miguel Cotto. I know what you mean though, I love watching those types of fighters, either big punchers like a Tyson, Foreman or Liston that take out most of their opponents quickly to the point they seriously reconsider ever stepping into a ring again or toe to toe warriors like Gatti, Cotto, Chavez Sr., Corrales, or Barrera. Those are my types of fighters. Sure, I'll occasionally like a good defensive, flashy or slick boxer who could sometimes get some stoppages, like a Pernell Whitaker, Sugar Ray Leonard, Robinson, or Mayweather, Ali but, for the most part, I'll watch a big puncher or warrior type, like the ones mentioned above. Gatti was definitely my type of boxer.

Oh yeah and if you want to see a recent good battle, watch Delvin Rodriguez's draw with Pawel Wolak from last season's Friday Night Fights from ESPN 2. Starts off a bit slow, but really picks up by the middle rounds.
