Sam Langford and Bob Fitzsimmons would be the 2 vying for 1st place though.

Lol, I came in here thinking. I'll drop some old ass names in here, but really those two seem to be set apart. They're just so much better then the other fellas list-able. Seems like for me before I can go on I gots to have Sam vs Bob settled. h2h I'd say Sammy all day, but which had a deeper bag of fistic skills? Who's the greater fighter? I dunno....both of them were little balls of **** you up.....

Rules quarry: Do ****** count as US fighters given they lived on the actual land. Or are we talking accept by the government, free, citizens? Marquee years and on or all of boxing in it's ancient glory?

There are ATG's....... i.e. Their names last forever or almost.... and Great fighters... i.e. Top fighters in their day but not the best of the best.......... then there are short term champions and down the line..... JAB is right,... ....... In earlier era's there were the best of the best,... like Joe Gans...... as long as there is boxing.... people will talk about him.... therefore not just ATG but an ATG among ATG's..... now that's Mega great. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- You go on about a top modern fighter like Gonzalez, but I'm going on about Gans........ there's a difference,.... is anything sinking into your grey matter ??

I do, and he wouldn't make any top 50 p4p list that I can think of. Great fighter? Sure. All time great? I guess that depends on your definition of greatness.

Well I have that Monzon bloke in my as yet unpublished list,..... I don't know where he is exactly....... Where do you have him in your ATG MW list ????

Seriously I think exact ATG rankings are slightly ridiculous...... you know the "my 7th is better than your 3rd" stuff...... If you want my true opinion, for a fighter to be considered a Hall of famer or ATG,...... is enough for me. After that, we can have comparisons between two individuals (who've never met), and even that can be difficult because when we do compare "AWESOME A vs INCREDIBLE B", we usually find that although A beat C, who beat B only to realise that D beat C and also beat A,... but damn, B beat D twice and E, F, G, and H,..... and in the end we MAY agree after all that fighter H,,,,, a guy who we never really thought of at the beginning becomes the new "Awesome A".............. Have you noticed these sorts of patterns on your Boxing History travels ???...................................

Although Calzaghe has a borderline chance of making the list..... Napoles is in there come what may,,,,, as for McLarnin (unless he's an American)......... He has strong claims to top 10 at least.... so has Darcy by the way.

Oh, do you mean the mention of Darcy ??...... yes that had nothing to do with your statements above..... It was simply an add on on my part. I think he's either in that top 10 or at least very close as I think that because the MW division is traditionally been an American domain for the most part,..... Monzon and Darcy are probably the best two MW's for this list....... The Langford's and Carpentier's were famous at many weights,..... therefore way up there......... It's in the lower divisions where the hottest competition is for spots on this list..... Just think Mexico and the rest of Latin America and you get my drift.

LOL how are you a fan of every fighter you have never even seen a full fight of yet don't know ATGs whose fights you can actually watch like Humberto Gonzalez and Sumbu Kalambay?

Since we have been discussing the greatness of fighters without film in other threads it was only natural to think you were talking about all time greatness in its full spectrum. After all, besides Langford who fought most of his fights based in the US, I can't remember you ever questioning a non US fighters lack of film. And since light flyweight is an incredibly tough division to follow because of lack of coverage and name recognition, and there are only 5 youtube fights for him, how can you judge Gonzalez at all?
