I'm not the biggest Foreman fan but when you think about it, isn't it amazing he had won the title back 20 years after he had lost it at age 46! True, he never retired undefeated champion at 49-0 a la Marciano. He'd never won the title 3-4 times like Ali, Lewis and Holyfield. But I just think it's an incredible feat to win the title at such an old age. Very few fighters have been successful fighting into their late 30's much less mid-forties. But Big George for whatever reason was one of a kind! You must give him credit for that...

When you think about what he had accomplished, wasn't Big George amazing?!

It was pretty amazing to win it at 45 and always will be. But If Hopkins beats Dawson I don't think anyone can debate any longer that Hopkins hasn't exceeded what Foreman did. Or any other boxer in history in terms of age.

The thing about Foreman is he was one of the most physically naturally gifted fighters in the history of boxing. He won Olympic gold after something like only 19 amateur bouts. Under that family-friendly facade you can still see flashes of the brutal character lurking underneath.

With a better trainer I believe he could have been the #1 heavyweight of all time.
Not the prettiest, but the most accomplished and dominant. Imagine if someone was there to actually make him fight properly? That's something I don't want to fight in the ring.

#1 hwt of all time??? Hell NO! When all is said and done all George is a slow plodder with a good heart and a great punch. What he did at 46 is amazing but Moorer was kickin that ass all night til Big George landed that punch. Holyfield, Vlad, Holmes, Tyson, Lewis > Foreman. Louis, Marciano are pick em fight only because of them being much smaller.

Let that one sink in. We're not talking about Grandpa Foreman the bumbling crowd favourite (that's how I remember it at least). We're talking about the one who would bounce (literally) into the middle of the ring and start throwing haymakers from the getgo. His punches were telegraphed sure, but slow? No. When they were released, they got there, and they got there deceptively quick.
He's not the top 4 heavyweight spot on Cox's Corner on punches alone. While they were massive, he also had an excellent chin and underrated stamina and speed of both hand and foot. He also cut the ring very well (case in point Rumble in the Jungle)
Don't believe me on the hand-speed part?
Look at when he lets fly. Those are very hard punches too.
Also, Joe Louis was half an inch shorter than Holyfield.
