Maybe when there was talks of a rematch after the Hearns vs Leonard fight. Hagler demanded 20m though so it was never going to be made.

Could Hearns ever beat Hagler?

The biggest misnomer that comes out of Hagler-Hearns is that Hearns chose to slug with him. Truth is, he had no choice. When you have a talented and physically stronger fighter bearing down on you....sticking and moving can be almost impossible. Of course, if you can truly hurt him as he was coming in, you could get him to ease up a bit and ALLOW you to box.
Hagler was just too much for Hearns, period.

Exactly right. If Hearns could have boxed he would have. Hagler clearly forced that type of fight.

Certainly not AFTER their first first in 1985, and given the actual result of that fight, it's really hard to imagine Hearns beating him even if they had ever fought before that so I gotta say NO. Hagler knew his path to greatness ran right through Tommy Hearns and the man was not gonna be denied his greatness.

nah, I think had Hearns not broken his right hand he could have made the fight last longer. But Hagler was forcing the fight just way too much, and Hagler's durability and stamina are some of the best in the history of boxing. I dont think Hearns was brittle, especially at 160lbs, but being pushed at that kind of pace...
Hagler just forced the fight too much. Best case scenario I could see Hearns being slightly ahead leading into the 8th or so, but Hagler would have just accumulated too much punishment and get the stoppage.
