  • ATG vs ATG fantasy fights that would have a different result depending upon...

...which boxer's era they were fought in?

For example, I think Marciano would have a much better chance against Lewis if they fought during the 50s, where the gloves had less padding, rings were smaller, it was easier to get away with dirty tricks/fouls and fights lasted a few rounds extra (not that I see this fight going the distance, but if it did, Rocky was more durable).

Most of the modern era would struggle majorly with the conditions and rules of 1910-1920.

I think a fight with a top lightweight from anywhere since the late 50's to now against either Battling Nelson or Ad Wolgast in a fight would have a good chance in a 12 round fight. But if any of them tried a 40 round bout they would be annihilated,... ANNIHILATED !

.............it isn't like the 15 rounders where they have a similar level of activity as the 12 rounders today.

those 40 round fights didn't have Hagler Hearns type of activity lol

          IMO they're better conditioned nowadays

Sandy Saddler would have a much better chance against say Alexis Arguello in his times as he would be able to use his dirt tactics / tricks at free will and not get penalized I see Saddler breaking Arguello down and possibly KOing him if not it would be a close decision, put Saddler in Arguello's time where he won't be able to get away with them and I see Arguello getting a decision or DQ win if Saddler still does his usual tricks.

Although in both times it would still likely be close, Saddler was the first person I thought of when I came in the thread, the things he got away with on the regular were unreal.

I cant really think of a match up right off but I did think of a few fighters that some may disagree with as to how they would fare in the early 1900's.

First of all BHop. If this guy could pull all the tricks out of the bag without repercussion I could see him beating even the likes of SRR. As much as I hate to say it, we have to admire the way he uses those angles against the ref when he sneaks a punch to the upper thigh (purposely) or the back of his opponents head. Its very strategic and smooth.

Secondly, Floyd Jr. His use of thse elbows and shoulders while in-fighting is completely amazing. Imagine it with almost no warnings that allow him to throw them with more umph. The way he utilizes them to create space is quite the vision of boxing beauty.

Lastly Miguel Cotto. I think he is really hindered by srtict reffing. Those body shots on the belt line can sit just about any JMW down. I always viewed him as pound 4 pound one of the most brutishly strong guys in boxing. He chooses a more refined style but he wont hesitate to dump any opponent on his ass if he gets his head held down. Low blows, bows and throws.
