Maybe someone had Minter in their top 20. But, I don't think that back in '81 there was such scrutiny was put on lb4lb lists....especially not as far down as 20!

I mean people rag on fighters like Ricardo Lopez, Hopkins, Wlad and Mayweather for not being in great era and not having a lot of comp but I never hear the same about Hagler

Probably because he did come up through some very tough guys before he won the crown....and because he was such a great, great representative for the sport. Hopkins, Wlad, and Mayweather are scrutinized in that way because a number of people simply do not like the way they fight. Lopez? I think being at that weight class made a lot of the names on his resume unrecognizable....I certainly can't imagine anyone disliking the way that guy fought or his approach.

Hagler's my favorite all time fighter- for how he fought and for the way he was as a fighter and champion.

          antuofermo was highly regarded

          so was hamsho

everybody on his record for the most part during his title run was on a good little run themselves.
he wasn't hand picking guys coming off of losses, docking guys weight, etc if that's what you're asking about
          thats a contemporary phenomenon

if the money was right hagler would fight the devil in his hometown

without heading to the boxrec, however, i doubt very much anybody can tell you specifically about a 10-20 ranking on an lb for lb list
the end of a top ten lb 4 lb list gets academic anyway usually
          nevermind a 10-20

I dont see why Hagler's era was considered bad at all.

Some people were already considering him the best middleweight champ ever in the May of 1982.

In other words, this was before he fought Duran, Hearns or Leonard.

What people dont realise sometimes is that Hagler was beating top ranked fighters BEFORE winning the title, because it took him forever to get a title shot and was even robbed of a victory in his first fight against Antoufermo.

before winning the title he was beating highly regarded fighters like Loucif Hamani, Bobby Watts, Bennie Briscoe, and Mike Colbert.

Hagler already cleaned out the division before he won his belt. He was called "the uncrowned middleweight champion of the world".

Duran, Leonard, And Hearns were his well deserved paychecks after cleaning out the mw division leaving no stone unturned and no questions as to who was the best in the division.

IDK if they had a pfp list back then but....

Antofuermo, Hamsho, Minter, monroe and mugabi were all solid fighters.
