Canzoneri was a weird slugger in that he actually held both of his hands down. This would cause his opponents to lunge at his totally open face. And that is when they would be falling for his counter punching. Weird style. Part slugger and part counterpuncher.

Canzoneri would be a very dangerous fight for Pacquiao because of his lunge inviting counter punching style. Young Pacquiao would be in trouble. However, the more developed one that he is now would probably pick Canzoneri apart. He is too fast and too strong.

Tony had am iron jaw and could punch too. IMO his best weight is lightweight and i think he is proven against better comp than PacMan. He can counterpunch very well and i think he outworks Manny to a decision.

Yeah, DarkTerror is spot on about the difference of competition levels, Tony fought in a great era of talent, some guys no where near the top ten in their div's would have been highly regarded now, I love the old school who had more fights than these guys today have rounds and they were in such great condition, they often fought 20 bouts or more in ONE year. But I do also believe that Pacquiao is THE best fighter I've seen since Leonard, he is one out of the box, i'd prefer they had a 5 fight series instead of a single bout, wouldn't you ?

I think the 30s was very rich for boxing
at heavy there was Baer and Schmeling and upcoming Joe louis.
                  Billy Conn at LHW
                  MW there was Walker
at the lower weights there were Canzoneri, Ross, McLarnin, Armstrong. Among others.

                  It was remarkable.

Yeah, and the thirties was full of true characters, have you seen the Two Maxies films with Max Baer and Slapsie Maxie Rosenbloom, funny stuff, no Laurel and Hardy though. But it was a colourful era with 50 good fighters in any division you can name, cheers.
