Ever notice how Foreman in his prime would sort of ploddingly slug it out trying to cut the ring off and then just explode on opponents with surprising speed? Check out round 2 versus Norton how the first knockdown occurs, it was like he had been lulled by the slow rhythm and before he knew it it was all over.

Young Foreman's Deceptive Speed
Collapse
-
People think of him as slow, & though his handspeed & reflexes were not exceptional, his footspeed was always under-estimated & he started every fight roaring out of the corner like a freight train.
He was quick as they come in imposing himself on his victims.

he telegraphed his big punches as much at least as much as any other great fighter
and then when he returned from retirement he hid them as well as anybody

i loved seeing him chillin on a park bench with vitali

Even comeback Foreman was deceptively fast, watch his hands when he KO's Cooney.
He was quick!
And the shot that stopped Moorer...

Foreman was quick when it came to cutting off the ring/shortening the distance on his opponents.

Not very much speed with the wide, telegraphed, looping shots he would throw with either hand to the head or body, but not too bad for his size when he threw the jab (underused by the younger iteration) or straight right. And as Joseph said, pretty fast feet when he was cutting off the ring. I remember being surprised watching him jump up and down in one of his earlier fights just how explosive his legs were, people usually think of him as this slow plodder, because of the 250-300 lb older version, or the younger one next to Ali.Last edited by Jim Jeffries; 07-14-2011, 07:41 PM.
