Both guys had heavy hands and both guys were Explosive but id say Jack was more explosive than Rocky and Marciano the heavier handed of the pair

Zab Judah had more explosive power than Cotto, Miguel the heavier hands for example, tho perhaps not the best example as Zab has anything but heavy hands while Rocky had both.

If i had to just pick 1 guy id say Marciano but only by a ball hair!

I think we can agree theres very little in it, & perhaps we are selling Dempsey a fraction short --- when his handspeed had clearly lost a step, he still floored & wounded an absolutely iron-jawed Champion, in Gene Tunney, & did away with Sharkey on one shot in visibly brutal fashion.

Many believe Dempsey should have been disqualified for low blows against Sharkey. He was clearly hit low and affected by the nut shots more than the punch that dropped him. I can see at least 4 or 5 low blows leading up to the punch that drops him. That said.....protect yourself at all times!

You know, I was going to protest and then I rewatched it...Sharkey almost looks like he's grabbing his nuts on the canvas more than it seems like he's out. That hook was a laser beam, though.

The hook was pin point no doubt, but Sharkey is clearly in pain from being hit low. By today's rules it would be a no contest at the least and a DQ at the worst.

What about the way he turns a boxing lesson on its head & smashes the rock-jawed Tunney into the ropes with one good hook?

Even with diminished speed, Dempsey had serious, jarring power. This is a really close call between he & Marciano.

Oh, Im not trying to discredit his power, that would be asinine. Im just pointing out the controversy of his ko of Sharkey.

Overall I think Marciano is the harder puncher. He could club your arms till you couldn't pick them up or he could knock you out with one shot. He just seems more heavy handed in my opinion.

I think Marciano had the more raw, clubbing power overall.

but Dempsey was more likely to get flash knockdowns/knockouts, because he was faster and more explosive.

but in terms of just pure power, Marciano.

oh by the way, that Sharkey KO is bull****. multiple low blow combos to the balls? come on. it wasnt even really the left hook that put him away(although it was a solid shot that dropped him), you can see him writhing around on the floor repeatedly making pain motions toward his nuts. even when they pick him up off the canvas hes still holding his balls. he was even kind of on the way down before he got hit in the head.

I dont give credit to Dempsey for that 'win'. He was losing that fight too.

You should give credit to Dempsey for the punch, even if you decide to detract from the win.

Sharkey was nailed sweet, hard & clean. The hook dropped the young man like a bag of dirt. In 1926, you would not have found another Heavyweight in the world who could put Sharkey out with a single shot.

That said, a prime Marciano could also have duplicated that feat. Marciano was, incidentally, no less dirty than Dempsey (to put it conservatively) & regularly weakened his foes with fouling, preceding a KO.

Sharkey was wide awake, despite being dropped from the left hook. It was the low blows that finished the fight, NOT just the punch.

You can see that he starts to bend down to take a knee following those low blows, right before Dempsey hits him. Which is why his feet seem to be swept from underneath him. Plus the fact that the punch you dont see is the one that hurts you, and Sharkey was more caught up in the fact that his balls had been mushed.

But yes, good punch all the same.
